Mexican restaurant opens in former west-side Burger Time
Jan. 30, 2025
The newest Mexican restaurant to open in Sioux Falls — and there have been three others this month — features the style of ranch cooking in the state of Durango.
Gorditas Durango is in the former Burger Time building at 2300 W. 12th St.

“We decided to open this business because we want to show you the real Mexican food from the rancho, which is from the farm,” said Primitivo Fuertes, who owns the restaurant with his wife, Carmen Ramirez.

That includes gorditas, which are made with masa and stuffed with meat.

The menu also includes dishes that are popular in El Salvador like pupusas.

There are tacos, burritos, tortas, sopes and flautas.

Asada, or steak, is the most common meat, but there’s also birria, chicken and chicharron. Soup options are caldo de res and caldo de pollo. Those come with rice and salad on the side.

“We decided to give you something better, less money, better flavors of north Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala from the farm or the country,” Fuertes said. Ramirez and employees are doing all the cooking.

The building doesn’t have seating inside. Customers can walk up and place their order. Eventually, the drive-thru will be available.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
