Restaurant Roundup: Farmers market pop-up, free bagels, new summer menu items

July 1, 2021

Cherry Rock Farms hasn’t set the opening date yet for the produce store, but it’s having a pop-up market from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The market south of Brandon will be selling broccolini, cabbage, kale, swiss chard, beets, onions, carrots, cherry tomatoes, parsley, basil and cilantro. Food and drink products from local vendors also will be in stock.

Panera Bread is offering a free bagel Friday through Sunday to anyone who has gotten vaccinated against COVID-19.

Light and refreshing are the keywords for the new menu items at The SandBar & Grill. Kitchen manager Cody Woods offered details on three of them. The summer salmon is a grilled fillet served on a bed of mixed greens with a lemon sauce that’s made in-house. It’s topped with basil and sesame seeds. The Cali chicken flatbread features olive oil on the crust topped with grilled chicken and a four-cheese blend. After that’s baked, the flatbread is topped with guacamole, sriracha aioli and diced red pepper and red onion. For dessert, Woods put a twist on a traditional tiramisu, swapping espresso for lemon. Ladyfingers are soaked in lemon juice and then layered with lemon marscapone and topped with whipped cream and a mint leaf. For summertime drinks, The SandBar has crafted the Copper Cup Cocktails menu with a traditional Moscow Mule and other mule flavors along with a rum and Coke Cube Libre and the Sweet Surrender with peach brandy, champagne and orange juice.

Tropical Sno has added an ice cream option for its shaved ice. Get a scoop of vanilla for $1. The crew tested several options and suggests going traditional with root beer and orange creamsicle, elaborate with a banana split or caffeinated with a mudslide.

Remedy Brewing Co. has created a beer with the South Dakota band Judd Hoos. The juicy India pale ale is called Hoos Joos and has notes of coconut, citrus and tropical fruit. It’s available in the taproom in single or six-pack cans, at retailers that carry Remedy beers and on tour with the band.

The Phillips Avenue Diner is offering a “red hot” deal on gift cards. The downtown restaurant will be closed for several weeks while crews repair damage from a fire. In the meantime, the diner is offering a 15 percent discount on digital gift cards until July 11. Use promo code FIRE15 on the diner’s website.

The behind-the-scenes producer of “13-hour” brisket served by chains such as Arby’s and Subway is making its pit-smoked meats available at Hy-Vee stores in Sioux Falls. Sadler’s Smokehouse got its start in 1948 in East Texas with a drive-in eatery and grew into a food-processing giant that was acquired by Hormel last year. According to promotional materials, “The new line of Sadler’s Smokehouse products is pit-smoked low and slow, using butcher-quality cuts of meat, no artificial ingredients, Texas hardwoods and 65 years of family barbeque tradition,” Hy-Vee shoppers can find ready-to-eat beef brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken and St. Louis ribs.

Here are a few changes in hours and service:
