Restaurant Roundup: Daily brunch, summer sippers, Veg Fest

If you think brunch shouldn’t be confined to Sundays, Let It Fly has the answer. The restaurant at 57th and Western has started serving it every day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The menu features a breakfast skillet, an egg white omelet with spinach and goat cheese, breakfast sliders, Heavenly Waffles and a breakfast chimichanga. Get $5 mimosas by the liter or a bloody marys.

Lunch is back at The Cookie Jar Eatery. Owners Glen and Elain Koch suspended it in October, citing upcoming holiday orders, rising food costs and the labor shortage. Sandwiches, salads and soups are served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Cookies, fudge and other bakery items are ready when the shop in Shriver Square at 11th and Phillips opens at 10 a.m.

The Hello Hi has three new summer sippers. The Port Light features bourbon, passionfruit, lemon, honey and egg white. And while the gin-based Puffer Puffer wins coolest glass, the Scorpion Bowl is literally on fire and serves two or three people.

Fans of plant-based food can visit The Good Earth Farm south of Lennox on Saturday for the first South Dakota Veg Fest. Food and drink vendors include Okoboji Wines; Daily Clean Food & Drink, which will serve small acai bowls, half-sized seitan wraps and drinks; Windy City Bites, which will be serving vegan Chicago dogs, vegan soul food dishes and vegetarian pizza puffs; and Buenisimo, a Peruvian food truck from Iroquois. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the farm, 28318 466th Ave. Admission is free.

With Veg Fest, Sioux Falls area highlights growing plant-based food scene

Food Truck Fridays are back starting this week at Dawley Farm Village after a two-year break because of the COVID-19 pandemic. One food truck will be there each week through August, serving from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Find it in the First Bank & Trust parking lot or another lot on the north side of the development. Let Me Be Frank, a hot dog cart, kicks off the lineup. Editor’s note: The food truck kicking off the weekly event has been corrected to Let Me Be Frank. 

Try different food truck each week of summer at Dawley Farm Village

Parlour Ice Cream House has added an ice cream sandwich that’s vanilla ice cream between chocolate chip cookies. There also are mini versions that rotate flavors. The shop in Washington Square at 12th and Main also has started summer hours. It opens at noon daily and closes at 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday.

Dry rub wings are back for a limited time at Slim Chickens. Flavors include the new Nashville Hot and the return of lemon pepper and cayenne ranch.

Granite City Food & Brewery is having a customer appreciation party Tuesday. Customers can bring up to two items to tie dye with the help of Tiffany Ralls. Food and drink specials include $10 tacos and $3 margaritas. The party, which is for all ages, starts at 4:30 p.m. Door prizes will be given away every hour.

Tarquin Argentinian Restaurant is having a street food and summer brews party starting at 6 pm. Tuesday. RSVP by calling the restaurant at Benson and Cliff at 605-271-2027.

Changes in hours, service

The new Roots of Brasil reopened Wednesday after repairing exterior HVAC equipment that was damaged in the May 12 derecho.

Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet is closed through June 13. Owner Sanaa Abourzek returned to her native Syria because her mother has died.

Songbird Kombucha’s shop is closed this week because “demand is high and our supply is low.” It will be at the Falls Park Farmers Market as usual on Saturday.

Auntie J’s American Soul Food in Lennox is open extra days in the week for supper. Hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Owner Joni Williamson plans to serve brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Sunday closest to a holiday or the second Sunday of the month. The restaurant on Main Street also opens at noon Tuesday through Saturday for coffee and pastries.

B&G Milkyway locations have started summer hours of 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Attic Bar & Grill East is closed on Sundays for the summer. The west-side location remains open that day.

Poppy’s Popcorn Co. also is closed on Sundays for the summer. It’s open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every other day.
