The Smothered Beef Sandwich is back on the menu at Granite City Food & Brewery as the featured food for January. This month’s local bartender creation is the Cheat Drink Sugar Cookie Drink. It features vanilla vodka, amaretto, Baileys Irish Cream and almond milk, served in a sugar-rimmed martini glass.

The new food truck 605 Barbecue Co. is taking Super Bowl pre-orders for its smoked meats.

Offerings include pulled pork, brisket, pork loin, ribs and whole chickens. Email [email protected] to place an order.

Oh My Cupcakes features for the month have a hot drink theme: Mondays and Saturdays are hot cocoa, Tuesday and Thursdays are white chocolate mocha and Wednesdays and Fridays are caramel macchiato. The featured cake for the month is marshmallow hot cocoa. Layers of chocolate cake are filled with marshmallow buttercream and chocolate ganache, and the cake is topped with chocolate marshmallow buttercream and marshmallows.

The featured drinks for January at The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. were picked by customers, who voted on all the featured drinks from the past year.

A Little Guy was the clear winner. It’s a single shot with chocolate cinnamon and steamed oat milk. Coming in at No. 2 was Oolong Johnson, which is named after a viral cat video from the early days of YouTube. It’s made with a concentrate of Gui Shan Oolong tea, steamed oat milk and local honey, garnished with dried tea leaves and a drizzle of honey.

Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars brewed a special drink to go with last weekend’s South Dakota premiere of “Valentine Crush” at the State Theatre. Also called Valentine Crush, it’s still available at the theater – although the movie, which has all kinds of South Dakota ties, is gone. Find it also in Covert’s taproom on East Eighth Street and at JJ’s Wine, Fogie’s, the Hy-Vee on Sycamore and Club David. Valentine Crush is an ale made with alternative grains and lots of flavor: “This blood red, gluten-free deliciousness was made with cherries, brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla.”
