Name: Shelby King

Age: 31

Hometown: Worthing, South Dakota — not to be confused with Worthington, Minnesota

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

More opportunities. I love the hustle and bustle of the city but also really appreciate how close-knit of a community Sioux Falls is.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

The people, the growth, my career, friends and family.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

Getting the opportunity to help people with one of the biggest investments of their lives. It’s a huge responsibility, and I’m grateful to continue to do so year after year.

How did you get connected to your industry?

My love for real estate initially came from selling Kirby vacuums door to door, but Todd Thoelke is the one who took me under his wing and showed me the ropes of the industry. I owe a lot to him and will always give him credit for contributing to my success.

Describe your workplace in three words.

Vibrant, supportive and progressive.

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

I’m a redneck at heart, and I have raced in several demolition derbys.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

Currently, it is sitting as our Realtor association’s chair on the YPN committee. I really enjoy the responsibility of helping our agents learn more about the industry and connecting people.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

Oh, I’m a huge Trader Joe’s addict, so Trader Joe’s!
