Nov. 14, 2023

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Mya Bunker, an investment analyst at The First National Bank in Sioux Falls.

Name: Mya Bunker

Age: 22

Hometown: Brandon

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

I grew up in Brandon and then attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for college. I got connected to a job opportunity at First National following a summer internship, and it seemed like a great place to start my career. This also gave me the chance to move back to Sioux Falls after graduation and be closer to family.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

After going to school at UNL, I knew I eventually wanted to end up back in Sioux Falls. I love being close to my family. This is also such a fast-growing city with so many opportunities. I work and live downtown, and I enjoy experiencing all the shops, restaurants and activities it has to offer!

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

I am constantly learning! Since starting at FNB, I have gained so much knowledge. Our team is very collaborative, and everyone is encouraged to bring ideas to the table.

How did you get connected to your industry?

Going into college, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in business but didn’t know exactly what industry I wanted to be in. I have always been more analytical, which led me to pursue a degree in finance. Throughout college, I had a couple of different internships in the investments field. Those experiences really sparked my interest in investing and led me to First National.

Describe your workplace in three words.

Welcoming, collaborative, relationship-focused.

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

Recently, I have been playing a lot of pickleball! It is such a fun way to get outside and spend time with friends.

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

I love supporting all of the local shops and restaurants in Sioux Falls. I will also be volunteering with Junior Achievement during this school year.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now?

Definitely Trader Joe’s!

If you had $1 million to start a business, what kind of business would it be?

I would love to start a foundation with my family that raises money for nonprofits supporting kids with cancer/critical illnesses. My family found out firsthand how much these nonprofits can change kids’ lives, and I want to be able to provide that experience for other families.
