From Flamin’ Hot Cheetos cheeseburgers and a queso-birria burger to a burger from a taco shop and even a root beer float burger, that’s just a sampling of what diners will discover in the 2024 Downtown Burger Battle.

The 11th annual competition organized by Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. starts Jan. 1 and runs all month.

This year, 37 restaurants are competing, which is five more than last year.

Burger tasters will assign up to five points in each of five categories for every featured burger they try. The burger with the highest average points at the conclusion of the battle will be declared the winner. Last year’s champ, Crawford’s Bar & Grill, won after selling more than 2,500 burgers. The Gold Standard is the burger the restaurant will serve to try to defend its title.
