Prepared-meal shop closes, transitions to new venture

Aug. 9, 2024

A business in south Sioux Falls that sells prepared meals and desserts has closed, but a new similar venture will take over the space.

Sara and Shea Geelan, who live near Lennox, have purchased Sioux Falls Chef’s equipment, furnishings and other items from owner Ellen Doerr. The new business will be called DINE.

The Geelans also own Dialed In Nutrition, another prepared meal service.

Doerr started offering her services as a personal chef in 2018 and opened her storefront in 2020. The location at 2210 W. 69th St. next to 22Ten Kitchen Cocktails includes an open kitchen where she and her staff prepared grab-and-go meals. She also offered occasional cooking classes and private dinners there.

Doerr said she wanted to return to working with food rather than managing a business. She has been working full time as a culinary specialist in research and development for OLM Food Solutions, and her staff has been operating Sioux Falls Chef, largely without her help.

Sioux Falls Chef closed Wednesday and will open Monday as DINE.

“For the next few weeks while we are building our website, we will only have grab-and-go options available in the store – no online orders,” Sara Geelan said.

Those meals will include Sioux Falls Chef favorites. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Geelan said the couple will have more information about DINE to share in the coming weeks as they finalize their plans.

They started Dialed In Nutrition in 2018 after struggling to feed their busy family healthy meals every day. They partnered with area businesses to allow customers to pick up online orders or to buy a meal from a grab-and-go refrigerated cases. The business has expanded to include providing meals to child care centers.

Dialed In Nutrition, which will continue as a separate business, operates out of a commercial kitchen in Lennox that the Geelans built.

Editor’s note: Corrections were made Jan. 17, 2025, to reflect that the Geelans purchased Sioux Falls Chef’s equipment, furnishings and other items. DINE accepted Sioux Falls Chef gift cards for a couple of weeks as part of the transition, Sara Geelan said.
