POET to add solar farm to Sioux Falls campus

June 3, 2021

POET is constructing an on-site solar farm to help power the company’s northeast Sioux Falls corporate headquarters.

The installation will include six rows of solar panels adjacent to the campus at 4615 N. Lewis Ave.

It will be the largest on-site solar project in Sioux Falls, generating 745,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, offsetting 630,000 pounds of carbon dioxide. The renewable power supplied to POET’s campus will be equal to the annual electricity use of 90 homes, the company said in a statement.

“As we face the impending climate crisis, we believe it is time for us to return to our roots and power our world using what God provided: the sun, the soil and the seed,” said Jeff Broin, founder and CEO.

“This solar farm exemplifies yet another way POET is committed to creating renewable energy by harnessing the most powerful energy source available, the sun, and combining it with human innovation to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and cultivate a more sustainable future.”

Construction is scheduled to begin this month and be completed by August.

The project also is meant to showcase the company’s ability to construct similar facilities for others.

“POET Design and Construction has a decadeslong track record of successfully designing and managing a wide variety of renewable energy projects,” said Rod Pierson, senior vice president and general manager for POET Design and Construction. “We are proud to offer solar project design and installation to our portfolio of client services and help our customers reduce their carbon footprint. We are extremely proud to feature POET’s headquarters as our flagship venture into this space.”
