Plaza Azteca to add east-side location
Oct. 17, 2024
Mexican restaurant Plaza Azteca is expanding to the east side.
The restaurant group essentially will duplicate its location along 69th Street west of Louise Avenue, which opened two years ago.
Plaza Azteca started as an upscale restaurant concept on the East Coast, and a group from North Dakota opened a location in Fargo and then expanded to Sioux Falls.
The east-side location will be built at 5915 E. 26th St., near Veterans Parkway and on the same corner as Neighborhood Dental.
The 6,000-square-foot building will be “pretty close to the same thing” as far as design and size and also will include a patio, said Tyler Starr, director of business development for Reynolds Construction Management, which is building the restaurant.
Sioux Falls “is responding very well,” to the first Plaza Azteca, he said.
“That place is packed most of the time for lunch and dinner.”
A groundbreaking is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, and from there, the plan is for the restaurant to be able to open before the end of next year, he said.
