A new shop that combines flowers and charcuterie has opened near The Empire Mall.

Platter & Petal at 3400 W 49th St. sells floral bouquets and charcuterie boards, caters for events and weddings with both flowers and food, and offers workshops and kids birthday parties.

The business is owned by Jess Jones and her husband Ryan Gaede, who also operate neighboring The Smoked Culture BBQ & Brews.

Jones and employee Rachel Becker craft bouquets in the shop’s open workshop, while the charcuterie is assembled in an adjacent kitchen.

The space is colorful and filled with bouquets, plants and blossoms that are drying.

Flowers come from Sioux Falls-based North American Wholesale Florist and a Wisconsin supplier, and blossoms from local farmers will be added in the summer, Jones said.

Charcuterie options range from traditional boards in a variety of sizes to a veggie and hummus platter and a fruit grazing centerpiece.

There’s even a Bloom & Brie Celebration Cake.

An early customer favorite has been the Petite Pairing for $65 with a mini bouquet and charcuterie board, Jones said.

Platter & Petal held its first class in late February, a couple of weeks after the opening, and plans to offer more. That day, participants designed a bouquet in a vase while snacking on charcuterie and sipping on beverages.

On Saturday, a workshop will feature a bloom bar and provision station, with participants designing their own seasonal floral arrangement and building a personal grazing board that will serve two or three people. Tickets are available at platterandpetal.com.

“There’s going to be a wide variety of classes because there’s so many fun things we can do,” Jones said. “We’d like to do at least one or two a month.”

Private workshops with a minimum of six guests also are available, along with birthday parties for kids where they can put together a bouquet and enjoy a lemonade bar and cupcakes.

Customers can stop in the shop to purchase flowers or charcuterie, and online ordering with pickup or delivery is available. Platter & Petal also sells a few items through DoorDash.

Shop hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
