Performance physical therapy business plans new building

Dec. 15, 2022

A growing performance physical therapy business is planning to move into a new building next year in south Sioux Falls.

Empower U was founded in mid-2020 by Nathan LeMaster, a physical therapist and fitness instructor who is a board-certified sports specialist. Co-owner Tyler Anderson is a board-certified sports specialist and performance physical therapist from Kansas City.

The business offers one-on-one physical therapy along with dry needling/cupping, continuing education courses and group fitness training.

“Our niche market targets the active individual who wants to feel their best and stay active in the things that they love,” said Lexi Morrison, head of business development and marketing. “Whether it’s waking up without feeling pain, being able to play with your child without experiencing pain or staying involved in a group fitness class, we are here to support your wellness journey.”

The business has grown significantly through word of mouth and partnerships within the health and fitness community, she said.

“By treating out of fitness studios and gyms across the Sioux Falls area, we’ve been able to treat our clients directly in their preferred fitness spaces,” she said. “Not only is this convenient for them but has enabled us to grow the Empower U community at the same time.”

Empower U now will be moving into its own space, a nearly 4,600-square-foot space near Cliff Avenue and 85th Street.

There will be five treatment rooms with a 1,500-square-foot turf performance space.

“We’ll have top-of-the-line equipment, including squat racks, treadmills and more,” Morrison said.

“The design is centered around our clients and building a space for the Empower U community. Our private treatment spaces will allow us to maintain our one-on-one treatment sessions with clients. We’ve included an Empower U community office to allow for collaboration on treatment plans and finding the best solution for our clients.”

The business model revolves around continuing education, she added.

“We want to break the stereotypes of traditional physical therapy. After years and years of our clients experiencing the typical recommendation of ‘you need to stop doing what you love for a short period of time to recover’ or ‘surgery is the only option,’ we have given our clients a new sense of relief with our treatment methods.”

Empower U is aiming for a grand opening in the spring.

“We are excited to engage the Sioux Falls community to utilize this space for athletic teams, wellness communities and more,” Morrison said.
