Large gaming store to close

July 28, 2022

Average Joe’s Gaming & Hobby Store is closing after about a year in business.

It’s located just south and east of Tea at 27294 Verhey Place.

The business filled a large warehouse with board games, arcade games and video games, combining retail offerings with a community space for gaming.

The play space includes 2,000 board games and card games, which were free to play.

Owner Joe Hamerly plans to sell all of it — including his personal library of games that he has been building for 15 years.

Hamerly, who is a father of six, said he plans to concentrate on his family and his health in exiting the business.

Beginning next week and through Labor Day, the plan is to be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Items will be on sale, and players can still come in and play games for free. There’s also a two-day auction of board games planned Aug. 20-21.
