Shannon Clark has been hired as the chief financial officer and controller for the Children’s Home Society of South Dakota. Most recently, Clark worked for 14 years in the finance department for The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society. Previously, Clark spent 10 years in public accounting in Sioux City and Sioux Falls.

Nate Schema

Nate Schema, the new president and CEO The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, has been elected to the board of governors of the American Health Care Association. Schema fills the not-for-profit seat that was vacated by Randy Bury when he retired as president and CEO of the Good Samaritan Society. Schema’s career with the organization began in 2006 as an administrator-in-training in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. He has served as a nursing home administrator, associate director of operations, regional executive director of operations and, most recently, vice president of operations.

South Dakota Retailers Association

The South Dakota Retailers Association has presented its annual awards.

Community Service Award: Pizza Ranch on West 41st Street.

Retailer of the Year: Travas Uthe of Trav’s Outfitter in Watertown.

Restaurant of the Year: Cattleman’s Club of Pierre.

Heritage Awards: C&B Operations of Freeman and Erv’s Furniture of Bowdle.

Joy Nelson

American Bank & Trust

Joy Nelson of Watertown has joined the board of directors of American Bank & Trust. Nelson, a member of the South Dakota Hall of Fame, is known for her career in real estate and finance, her philanthropy and her love of horses. She is the founder of Joy Ranch, a barrier-free camp, retreat center and event venue near Florence.

Associated General Contractors of South Dakota Highway-Heavy-Utilities Chapter

The Associated General Contractors of South Dakota Highway-Heavy-Utilities Chapter has elected officers: president, R.C. Scull, R.C.S Construction, Rapid City; senior vice president, Rob Knight, Foothills Contracting, Webster; vice president, Andy Johnson, A-G-E Corp., Fort Pierre; secretary/treasurer, Chad Hartman, L.G. Everist; and past president, Jim Soukup, Soukup Construction. Newly elected board members are Jesse Bruns, Reede Construction, Aberdeen; and Chris Ritter, Prunty Construction, Brookings.

The chapter’s Associate Division also has elected officers: president, Wade Planting, Titan Machinery; vice president, Andrew Heitzler, Fringe Benefits Design; secretary/treasurer, Toby Royer, Butler Machinery, Aberdeen; and past president: Derek McTighe, Brosz Engineering, Pierre. Newly elected associate board member is Dan Rude, Diesel Machinery.

The ACG H-H-U Chapter has presented its annual awards.

Build South Dakota award for medium projects: Asphalt Paving & Materials of Huron for work on South Dakota Highway 28 in Spink County.

Build South Dakota award for large projects: SFC Civil Constructors for work on the Eighth Street bridge and greenway rehabilitation.

Build South Dakota award for mega projects: D&G Concrete Construction for the reconstruction of 26th Street and Southeastern Avenue.

Good Citizen Award: Col. Dave Dailey of Rapid City, a registered professional engineer and a member of the South Dakota National Guard who most recently served as commander of the 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade throughout a one-year deployment in Somalia, Africa.

Continuous Membership Awards, 50 years: Myrl & Roy’s Paving, Rechnagel Construction, Hurley; and Contractors Supply, Rapid City.

Continuous Membership Award, 60 years: A-G-E Corp., Fort Pierre.

Jason Maxwell

Sioux Valley Energy

Jason Maxwell has been named chief financial officer of Sioux Valley Energy, which is headquartered in Colman. Maxwell joined the co-operative last year as assistant CFO and succeeds Betty VanDerWerff, who retired in January. He has been a Certified Public Accountant in South Dakota since 2005. Before coming to Sioux Valley Energy, he worked at East River Electric Power Cooperative and operated his own CPA business.

Xcel Energy

For the sixth year in a row, Xcel Energy has been honored as a best place to work for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. The Minneapolis-based company earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s 2022 Corporate Equality Index, which looks at nondiscrimination policies, offering equitable benefits to LGBTQ employees and their families and maintaining an inclusive culture that supports corporate social responsibility.
