Party America to close Sioux Falls store

June 23, 2026

Party America is closing its Sioux Falls location.

Owner Dave Hoffman is planning to retire after running the business for 35 years.

It has been located at 1401 W. 41st St. since 2018.

“It was a great run,” Hoffman said. “It’s just been fantastic, so it’s one of those deals that’s bittersweet.”

While he’s ready to retire, he said recent years also have brought numerous challenges, from vendors selling more cheaply online to tariffs and most recently a helium shortage.

While he was a franchisee at one point, he’s now the independent owner of the business. When related chain Party City went bankrupt, that also caused Hoffman to lose vendors, he said.

Add in price pressure from major online retailers such as Amazon “and you just can’t compete with it,” he said.

The store has started a going-out-of-business sale, with merchandise ranging from themed party gear and holiday merchandise to balloons and greeting cards.

The last day is scheduled to be July 3.

Hours for the closing sale are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
