Oh My Cupcakes debuts mobile pop-up shop

Just when you thought a local cupcakery couldn’t get any sweeter, it does.

Oh My Cupcakes is introducing a mobile pop-up shop trailer to offer its signature flavors and bring a full-service experience to the customer.

Much like the rest of the world, owner Melissa Johnson said the COVID-19 pandemic shifted her business strategy and led to more innovation.

“As consumer patterns change, we’ve discovered people want the experience to come to them,” Johnson said.

The very on-brand aesthetic of the pop-up shop includes a flower wall behind the order counter, shiplap texture and even a light blue velvet accent chair with an evergreen backdrop.

Johnson said she had very little to do with this as she credits her team for the idea and collaboration.

“It has been a creation of the leaders on my team, which is really, really cool,” she said. “Watching them from the beginning to now has made me so proud.”

The mobile shop will travel to community events, corporate functions, private parties, weddings and more. The first public event is this week at Fridays on the Plaza outside of Dakota News Now, with more events planned.

Customers can expect about a dozen cupcake flavors, some classic and temporary features in addition to gluten-friendly and keto versions.

Johnson said this is a unique opportunity to visit communities outside of Sioux Falls and explore other markets.

“We just want people to feel and taste the joy anywhere they experience us.”

Stay in the loop online, on Facebook, or visit one of two local storefronts at The Bridges on 57th or East 10th Street.
