New Thai restaurant features express service

Dec. 5, 2023

The newest Thai restaurant in Sioux Falls features pad thai, curries, pork ribs with sticky rice and other favorite dishes in an express-style format.

Thai10 is in the former Subway building at 1229 N. Minnesota Ave. The owners are Ruth and Sanaseuk Kitilach, who opened Mekong Asian Market in 2014 after moving to Sioux Falls from Nebraska.

“The concept is express, dish to go, dish to go, dish to go. Thai food in the express form,” said Ruth Kitilach, a first-generation Laotian American whose mother, Houan Soukkeo, will do much of the cooking. “We have Chinese food that is express (in the city.) We want to introduce Thai express to our area. We haven’t stumbled on that in the Midwest area a lot, so we’re going to try it out.”

Other dishes on the menu include chicken wings and sticky rice, papaya salads, pineapple fried rice and basil fried rice.

“We have two soups, the staples for Thai … Tom Kha Gai and Tom Yum. They’re both tangy, which we like.”

There are spring rolls and egg rolls, and Soukkeo eventually wants to add crab Rangoon to the menu.

Thai10 is starting with a simple boba menu, along with Thai coffee and tea.

“It’s very basic right now,” Kitilach said. “We have our taro, our milk tea. We do brew our milk tea base. And then we have our more refreshing ones, the juice bases like passion fruit, lychee and strawberry.”

The restaurant has seating for 50 diners and a drive-thru that isn’t operational yet. Eventually, Thai10 will add a third-party delivery service.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Follow Thai10 on Facebook for updates.

While the restaurant has been open since late last week, the grand opening will be Friday.

The Kitilaches bought the former Subway building in 2021 and began renovations.

“It was a long process, all the renovations. … We gutted the whole building by ourselves from ceiling to floor,” she said.

Owning a restaurant was a long-time dream for Kitilach’s parents, and “we built on that, and now it’s here.”

Sadly, her father, Berdin, died in February.

All the hard work was worth it, she said.

“We’re very family-oriented, so we just want to share that with everyone. This is how we get together and this is what we eat and this is how we eat.”
