New suite-style salons open in southeast Sioux Falls

Jan. 5, 2024

A new business offering suite-style salons in southeast Sioux Falls is almost full.

Elite Suites at 5211 S. Sycamore Ave. features health and beauty services, owner Elizabeth Campbell said. The building has space for 15 suites, and almost all are occupied. The building needs a few finishing touches, but many business owners have moved in already.

Campbell is from New Ulm, Minnesota, where she owns InStyle Salon and rents out suites in her building there. She moved to South Dakota in 2020 when she remarried and commutes every other week to her Minnesota salon. After renting space in Sioux Falls, she built up enough of a clientele to open a similar suite model here.

“I was renting part time, and then I built up a clientele and thought maybe I should put something up here because it’s such growing area,” Campbell said. “I chose the east side because it’s really growing over here, and there’s not a lot that offers all these services.”

The suites will offer Botox, facials, waxing and hair salons.

“A lot of my renters are mainly hair,” Campbell said. She has one vacant suite and would love to have a massage therapist there.

Adrianna Hart rents a suite for her business, Smooth Operations, which opened this week.

Hart said she always knew she wanted to work with people.

“I like making people feel good about themselves,” she said. “I tried doing hair for about a year, but that wasn’t my passion. I tried nails. Then I tried waxing, and I ended up loving it.”

She worked for another salon for about five years and built up enough of a clientele to open her own. “It seemed like the next step, and I get to use the products I want and provide the services I want,” Hart said.

The location is much closer to many of her clients, she said. And she appreciates the new building. “Everything is state of the-art and up to date. We wanted to be in Sioux Falls but close enough to the suburbs.”

She’s renting a double suite with Trysten Rupp. They’ll offer full waxing and facials.

“We’re really interested in a lot of anti-aging products and services,” Hart said. “We will offer chemical peels and facials for normal skin and acne-prone skin, and body facials.”

Hart said everyone is welcome. “There’s no reason to feel awkward. We do it all day, every day, and we see all shapes and sizes. We are here to make you look and feel your best.’

Campbell agreed and said connecting with people is part of what she loves about managing the suites and running her salon.

“I enjoy people so much. I love watching people feel happy getting their hair done and feeling good,” she said. “I love Sioux Falls. It’s a great city, and it’s growing so fast.”

The suite-based model is a great solution for new business owners, she added.

“I think girls like it because they can be on their own and they can charge what they want and have whatever hours they want,” she said. “And it’s a great income if you can keep those suites filled.”
