New Lake Lorraine restaurant, bar, brewery hits construction milestone

Oct. 9, 2024

Exterior work is wrapping up on the new restaurant, bar and brewery under construction at Lake Lorraine.

Wyoming-based Big Lost Meadery is building an almost 9,500-square-foot, two-story project on lakefront property at the west-side development. It will include the restaurant concept Ranch & Roost, which offers elevated pub fare such as burgers and chicken sandwiches.

Pete Nelson, vice president of construction for Van Buskirk Cos., estimates that all the exterior work will be done by the end of the month, while work continues inside.

“It’s just a very attractive building, kind of a rustic mountain theme, which is different for Sioux Falls,” he said. “We’re doing drywall right now on the inside, but there’s a lot of work — trim and flooring — to do, which will take all of November and December probably.”

The building includes a “huge deck overlooking the lake,” he added. “The patio is going to be gorgeous in the summer.”

The goal is to turn the building over to Big Lost Meadery in January, and from there it will be a couple of months of hiring and training, leading up to an estimated March opening, founder Sam Clikeman said.

The concept “is staying very similar” to what was announced earlier this year, he said.

“We’re bringing in more local influences in the interior, but everything has stayed on point.”

He expects to start hiring late this year and is moving a handful of employees from Wyoming to support the new location as well.
