New food truck features corndogs

June 13, 2024

Fans of corndogs no longer have to wait for an annual trip to the fair to find the fried-food favorite.

A new food truck, The Corndog Company, has arrived in the Sioux Falls area.

In addition to the “Epic” corndog, which features a quarter-pound, all-beef hot dog, there’s a mini version that’s half the size.

Diners can dip the corndogs in traditional ketchup and mustard or try them drizzled with honey.

Other treats include the Deep Fried Cheese Bomb, with a choice of mozzarella, cheddar or pepper jack cheese, and a Fried Babybel Cheese Pop.

Sweet offerings include Snickers and Milky Way candy bars and Oreo cookies, all of which are dipped in batter and fried.

Ana Gutierrez of South Sioux City, Nebraska, is the owner of the licensed concept. She learned about the Utah-based company from her sister-in-law, whose siblings own trucks in Sioux City and Omaha.

“For now, I’m going to be driving back and forth, but in the future, I’ll move up here,” said Gutierrez, who worked at the Tyson beef plant in Dakota City, Nebraska, before starting her business.

Curtis Hall of St. George, Utah, founded The Corndog Company in 2016.

“My son created this batter, and we tried it and said it’s the best batter we’d ever had in our life,” Hall said.

“We started a truck and thought it would be a fun thing to do on the side, to teach our kids. It got legs all of its own.”

Hall, who no longer owns a truck, began licensing the concept to people in 2020. Now, there are more than 60 across the U.S.

Gutierrez made her debut with The Corndog Company trailer May 31 in Tea. Since then, she has been in Harrisburg, Yankton and Sioux Falls. Locations are posted on Facebook and Street Food Finder.

The Corndog Company can be booked for public and private events.
