New east-side building will combine 3 food, beverage businesses

July 25, 2023

A building under construction in northeast Sioux Falls will be the new home of longtime bar and restaurant The Alibi Bar & Grill in addition to two other concepts.

The building is owned by Justin and Chrissy Johnson and is east of The Willows apartments along Arrowhead Parkway near Six Mile Road.

The largest space will be a relocated Alibi, which is moving from its longtime location farther east on Arrowhead.

“The same menu will be transferring over, so it’ll be a 21-and-over bar atmosphere … with an expansive patio on the back end,” general manager Todd Burns said.

“We’ve got a small stage, so we’ll be able to do entertainment as well.”

The Alibi specializes in burgers and also has appetizers, pizza and sandwiches. It currently can seat about 85, and capacity will go up to 200 in the new location, Burns said.

A plan for the current Alibi building hasn’t been confirmed yet.

The goal is to open in the new building the third week of August, Burns said.

First, though, the new Silver Dollar Casino will be opening there, with 40 video lottery machines in four separate rooms. That could be done in a couple of weeks, Burns said.

“There will be beverages, but there won’t be food,” he said.

Finally, a new restaurant, The Scapegoat, will open in the remaining space. It will seat 60 inside plus some patio tables and be open to all ages. The hope is to open at the same time as The Alibi.

The Scapegoat’s menu is being finalized, but it will feature 12-inch artisan Neapolitan pizzas, Burns said.

“And a nice wine list and some other food items we’ll do out of the pizza oven,” he said. “Steaks, I’m looking at running prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights.”

Hiring is underway for the new restaurants and casino. Click here to apply.
