New director named for Siouxland Libraries
May 29, 2025
A longtime leader within Siouxland Libraries has been appointed to serve as its next director.
Alysia Boysen was announced today as Mayor Paul TenHaken’s choice for the role. She will fill the vacancy left as Jodi Fick retires on June 20.
Boysen’s appointment will need to be confirmed by the City Council and has been endorsed by the Siouxland Libraries board of trustees.
“Alysia has a strong history with Siouxland Libraries, starting her career with the department 20 years ago,” TenHaken said in a statement. “She brings a wealth of experience as our next leader and will continuously look at ways to improve and innovate the way we deliver services to the region.”
Boysen, a Colton native, began her career with Siouxland Libraries in 2005 as a part-time employee at her hometown branch. She then started a full-time role at the Downtown Library in 2006 and progressed into leadership roles as branch librarian of the Rural East branches and then Rural West branches. Since 2020, Boysen has served as the senior librarian of technology and communication.
“I am incredibly honored to step into the role of director for Siouxland Libraries,” Boysen said. “My love for libraries began as a child at the Madison Public Library. Now, I am excited to continue building on Siouxland Libraries’ legacy of providing exceptional services, diverse collections and the dedicated people who connect our community with information and ideas.”
Boysen’s positions in both city library branches and rural communities “provide her with a holistic perspective of the diverse needs across the entire Siouxland Libraries service area,” according to the city.
Throughout her tenure, Boysen has been instrumental in implementing innovative library services and programs tailored to the specific communities within Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County, bringing new technologies and databases to Siouxland Libraries that have streamlined circulation and enhanced users’ experiences. She also has played a key role in elevating Siouxland Libraries’ communication channels and strengthening its brand.
Boysen holds a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Southern Mississippi and a bachelor’s degree in computer graphics and multimedia/web development from Dakota State University. She and her husband have four children and reside on their farm near Colton.
