Need homework help? Your kids can get it while you work out

A new addition at GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness will allow kids to get help with homework while their parents fit in a workout.

It’s thanks to a partnership between GreatLIFE’s Woodlake Athletic Club and Bright Zone, a Sioux Falls tutoring program.

Bright Zone was founded by teacher ShaLee Bauer. She and other tutors, who have teaching backgrounds, are available to work with kids at Woodlake while parents exercise.

“It’s taking our child care to the next step,” assistant general manager Krista Younger said. “We wanted to offer something especially for our 8- to 12-year-old population, so when parents are coming to the gym, they can take them for tutoring in the same place.”

Tutoring services are popular over the summer and tend to pick up demand after parent-teacher conferences, she added.

“We just want to build awareness because a lot of people don’t realize yet that it’s offered here,” Youngberg said. “You don’t necessarily associate homework help with a gym, but we’re glad to be able to offer it.”

The partnership also might expand to combine a set workout for kids with their homework-help time.

“It just depends on the demand and response from members,” Youngberg said.

The program can work with children of all ages in any subject areas. It’s structured so parents purchase two one-hour sessions per week. For information, call 605-207-0301 or email [email protected].
