This paid event listing is sponsored by Bitcoin Day.

Whether you’re just learning cryptocurrency or a programmer writing software, an upcoming Bitcoin Day event in Sioux Falls will leave you filled with new information about this quickly evolving industry.

Held May 21 at the Holiday Inn City Centre and presented by Frontier Bank, Bitcoin Day brings an expert lineup of nationally recognized speakers ready to leave you inspired and educated.

Bitcoin Day began in Omaha in 2014 and now is a nationally touring event, with topics that include:

  • Why is bitcoin important in the Digital Age?
  • How bitcoin changes our behavior with money.
  • What is mining?
  • The next decade of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
  • How to buy and trade cryptocurrency.
  • Why you should care about digital privacy.
  • What is blockchain?
  • How your business can accept bitcoin.
  • The difference between altcoins, tokens and NFTs.
  • How to set up a bitcoin IRA.
  • The bitcoin regulatory landscape.
  • How bitcoin is treated for taxes.

“The Bitcoin Day team prioritizes providing educational opportunities from many different angles,” said Andy Ott, digital banking manager at Frontier Bank.

“Speakers will cover topics like bitcoin mining, regulatory landscape, how bitcoin fits into traditional finance, security and how to learn more, both here at Sioux Falls as well as throughout the state and country.”

Ott ran a bitcoin ATM company in 2018 and 2019 before joining Frontier to focus on the bank’s IT infrastructure while working on launching and offering bitcoin products. He said while many people know that bitcoin exists, they don’t necessarily understand what it is or how it works.

He has received questions such as:

  • Can I buy a fraction of a bitcoin? (yes)
  • Where does bitcoin get its value?
  • Is it true there is a maximum supply of 21 million bitcoins? (yes)

“My position exists to address questions and concerns about bitcoin,” he said. “Many times already, I have met with people to answer questions about how it works, how to get started and anything else they might be wondering. I’m always happy to talk to someone on the phone, in person, via email or any other method.”

He also runs a lunch-and-learn series called Bitcoin & Bites held the second Wednesday of the month in Sioux Falls.

“We just had our first and were blown away by the interest, with most attendees saying they will be coming back again in future months.”

Bitcoin Day is a great place to start, he said.

“It’s designed for everyone from community leaders to business professionals, newbies and cryptocurrency leaders to gather under one roof to inspire, socialize and learn from each other.”

Early bird pricing for Bitcoin Day is available through Saturday, April 30.
