Riff City Guitar & Music is closing its Sioux Falls store, about seven months after acquiring the Sioux Falls Music space.

The Sioux Falls Music owners retired in 2018 after operating their business for more than four decades at 1209 W. 41st St.

Minnesota-based Riff City posted on its Facebook page thanking those who supported it.

“When we took over the location from Sioux Falls Music, we assumed the balance on the lease on the space and had high hopes that by now we could see enough store success to support the team and the inventory turn,” it said.

“However, as things continue to change and online purchasing continues to become the predominant purchasing method of choice, it is harder to support local entities – and we need to adjust to that reality. The lease is up, and we have decided for business reasons not to renew or move the store.”

All work in progress will be completed before the store closes, the business said. That’s expected to be at the end of the month. Much of the merchandise is discounted.

Riff City will continue to operate online and in two Minnesota locations.
