Bill Gassen, Sanford Health president and CEO, was the featured speaker during a fireside chat at the American Hospital Association Rural Health Care Leadership Conference earlier this month in Texas. Gassen, the chair-elect designate of the AHA board of trustees who will become chair next year, reflected on the realities of leading a rural health system through disruption and driving meaningful transformation.

Brad Reimer, chief information officer at Sanford Health, is taking part in a panel today at the ViVE national health care conference in Los Angeles. The panelists will examine the U.S. health care system’s coming digital renaissance. Earlier this month, he was a panelist at the American Hospital Association Rural Health Care Leadership Conference in Texas. That panel explored how rural systems are leveraging AI — especially ambient AI — to support early recognition, documentation integrity, patient outcomes and workforce extension while navigating consent, trust and equity concerns.

Dr. Jeremy Cauwels, chief medical officer of Sanford Health, was a panelist at the Medical Alley 2026 Summit earlier this month in Minneapolis. He and other panelists were part of the session entitled “Innovating for Access: Breaking Barriers to Care in Rural America.”

Wilson also was reappointed recently to represent South Dakota at the national level with the American Psychiatric Association. Other recent appointments include serving as a member on the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine admissions committee, board chair of the South Dakota State Medical Association Foundation, representative for the Black Hills district on the South Dakota State Medical Association Policy Council and member of the consultation team for SD-BEAM, a program through USD medical school’s Center for Disabilities.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Kelly Grogan has been named as this year’s grand marshal of the Sioux Falls St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Kelly, a retired firefighter with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, is the third Grogan to receive the honor of being grand marshal, following his mother Cleopha Grogan in 2001 and older brother Hugh Grogan in 2019. The 46th annual parade will be March 14 in downtown Sioux Falls.

Travel South Dakota

Travel South Dakota won seven awards for travel marketing excellence at the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International Adrian Awards. The state Tourism Department received gold and best of category for influencer/content creation – paid media only, two golds for consumer brand campaign, silver and best of category for purpose-driven campaign, and three silvers for consumer brand campaign, influencer/content creation and influencer/content creation – paid media. Travel South Dakota earned the awards in partnership with agencies Karsh Hagan, Lou Hammond Group, Love Communications, Miles Partnership and Lawrence & Schiller.
