Dakota State University

Mary Bell

Dr. Mary Bell has been named dean of The Beacom College of Computer and Cyber Sciences at Dakota State University. Bell has 34 years of leadership experience and 13 years of teaching experience. She also has 20 years of service in the Army, with expertise in aviation and intelligence. Her experience includes her most recent position as professor and faculty department head of operational art and campaign planning at the National Defense University, Joint Forces Staff College, Joint Advanced Warfighting School in Norfolk, Virginia, where she taught on topics including cyberspace, intelligence, information and space considerations. Her anticipated start date is July 31. The current dean, Dr. Pat Engebretson, will transition to a role as Beacom liaison for Rising II Initiatives. He also will serve as program coordinator for the doctorate program in cyber operations and have some teaching duties.

The College of Arts & Sciences at Dakota State University will have new leadership for the 2023-24 academic year.

Mark Spanier

Dr. Mark Spanier has been named interim dean, with his duties beginning in late June. Spanier is co-director of the Artificial Intelligence Lab and faculty co-adviser with the Edge Learning Consortium between AI Sweden and DSU’s Industrial Emersion Exchange Program. The current dean, Dr. David Kenley, is transitioning to a teaching role. He began his DSU career in 2015 as a member of the Arts & Sciences’ mathematics faculty, but his interests and research focus on cryptography and artificial intelligence/machine learning prompted a shift to The Beacom College of Computer & Cyber Sciences in 2019, where he is now an associate professor.

Stacey Berry

Dr. Stacey Berry has been named assistant dean. Dakota State was able to create the two-year position with a grant from the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education. Berry is a professor of English, chair of the Institutional Research Board and coordinator of undergraduate research.

The First National Bank in Sioux Falls has promoted two staff members.

Josh Kayser to ag banking team lead. Kayser, who previously served as an ag banker, has been with the bank for seven years and works at the Louise Avenue branch.

Amy DeYonge to retirement plans lead for First National Wealth Management. DeYonge previously served as retirement plans specialist and has been with the bank for six years.

Emma Anderson

TSP Inc.

Emma Anderson has joined TSP Inc. as a talent brand/acquisition specialist. Previously, Anderson held a sales and marketing role for five years.

 

Architecture Incorporated

Andrew Eitreim, principal architect at Architecture Incorporated, has been named president of the firm. Former president Steve Jastram will continue in his role as project architect and mentor. Jordan Burbach, who works in the Rapid City office, has been appointed vice president. Mitchell Aldinger has been appointed as a director to the board.

ART Vision/ARTisan Skin and Laser Center

ART Vision and ARTisan Skin and Laser Center have added three members to the team.

Chesney Garnos

Megan Sage

Megan Sage has been named executive director. Sage is an experienced nurse practitioner in both the aesthetic and ophthalmology fields.

Chesney Garnos has joined the staff as the senior digital strategist. Garnos has five years of digital marketing strategy experience, with a background in media relations and strategic communications.

Sarah Shay

Jacob Just

Jacob Just joins ART Vision as an ophthalmic assistant after receiving a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota. He also serves as a medical service officer in the South Dakota Army National Guard.

Sarah Shay has advanced to clinical director of ophthalmology at ART Vision. Shay has worked with owner Dr. Alison Tendler in the clinic and surgery setting for the past eight years. She previously worked in a hospital setting as a member of a surgical team in obstetrics.

Bradyn Neises

Bradyn Neises joined Bender as a broker in 2015 specializing in land and industrial properties. Neises obtained his SIOR designation in 2022, an achievement held by 1.5 percent of commercial brokers in the U.S.

Rob Kurtenbach joined Bender as a broker in 2018, and although he dabbles in a variety of markets, including office and retail, Kurtenbach thrives in development and investment properties. Since joining Bender, he has closed nearly 1,000 acres in land acquisition deals.

Alex Soundy joined Bender as a broker in 2019 specializing in investment properties, office properties and land sales. Soundy has closed over $1 million in transactions in the first three years of his career.

Elizabeth Edwards

Bender Cos.

Elizabeth Edwards has joined Bender Cos. as the public relations and community manager. She previously worked in marketing roles.

Three Cutler Law Firm LLP attorneys have been selected for inclusion in the 2023 Great Plains Super Lawyers list. The list recognizes the top 5 percent of attorneys in South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska. The selection is based on attorneys who have distinguished themselves in their legal practice through professional accomplishments.

  • Community Service Award: Dr. Daniel Petereit.
  • Richard P. Holm, MD, Media Award: Angela Kennecke, founder of Emily’s Hope.

  • Past President’s Award: Dr. Kara Dahl of Aberdeen.
  • Special Presidential Award: Terry Marks, administrative services coordinator for the SDSMA.

Denise Hanisch

Dr. Denise Hanisch of Centerville has been named president of the South Dakota State Medical Association. Hanisch, a family medicine physician who practices at Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, has been an active member of the SDSMA since 1998.
