Augustana University
Augustana University’s Class of 2022 nursing graduates in the School of Health Professions achieved a 97.5 percent pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination — the highest of all programs in South Dakota for the third straight year. Of the 81 Augustana graduates who earned their Bachelor of Science in Nursing, 79 students passed the exam when taking it for the first time. According to the South Dakota Board of Nursing, Augustana’s NCLEX pass rate surpassed the average pass rate of all nursing program graduates in the state, which was 86.7 percent. The national average was 79.9 percent. State regulatory boards use the standardized exam to determine readiness for licensure as a registered nurse.

Interior designer McKenna Shallberg has joined the multidisciplinary design firm TSP Inc. Shallberg previously held an interior design position that included collaborating with clients from design development through construction administration.

The First National Bank in Sioux Falls has promoted two team members.
Joe Miller to senior vice president and chief credit officer. He has more than 15 years of banking experience and has been with First National Bank since 2013, previously working as an ag banker and ag credit administration manager.
Stacie Swanstrom, personal trust officer with First National Wealth Management, to assistant vice president. She has nearly 20 years of banking experience, all with First National Bank.
Sanford USD Medical Center
For the second time in a row, Sanford USD Medical Center has received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. This national distinction recognizes Sanford Health’s achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm and error while in the hospital. Leapfrog assesses general hospitals based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems that hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce
The Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce has hired Mitch Rave as vice president of public policy. Rave has experience working in state government and economic development. He most recently served as senior legislative affairs specialist for Sanford Health. Rave will assume his new role June 26.
Minnwest Bank
Minnwest Bank president Ivan Van Essen has been named CEO. He will continue as president. Van Essen joined Minnwest Bank in 1998, serving as director of agriculture banking and lending, and later as chief lending officer and president. He has held leadership roles in the banking sector for over 35 years, including serving as board chairman at Security Bank. In his new role, he also will serve as a director on Minnwest’s board of directors. Former CEO Doug Karsky is transitioning to a newly created senior adviser role.
