Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Comfort Inn & Suites will build a four-story, 86-room hotel at the Sanford Sports Complex. The developers also own the AmericInn at 3300 W. Russell St. The Comfort Inn will be built near Blue Rock Bar & Grill and will include an enlarged indoor pool, hot tub, fitness center and a lounge that will serve beer, wine and pizza. Hotel construction is expected to start in April and take about a year.

A new partnership among POET, South Dakota State University and South Dakota Mines will establish the POET Bioproducts Institute, an innovation center for the development of high-quality bioproducts. The facility will allow for research collaboration and provide students with courses in bioprocessing and value-added agriculture. POET has committed $5 million to the SDSU Foundation to go toward constructing and furnishing the laboratory, which will be at the SDSU Research Park in Brookings. Construction is expected to be completed in 2023.

A Watertown-based cooperative is expanding its footprint to the Sioux Falls area with the construction of a gas station and convenience store with a Godfather’s Pizza Express on the north side of Harrisburg.Sioux Valley Cooperative is working toward an opening date in early May. Hours for the C-store at 756 N. Cliff Ave will be 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with 24/7 fuel access.

Hausmood Interiors has opened in an industrial area in Brandon on the north side of Interstate 90. Owner Amanda Stegmaier sells furniture and home furnishings. The business is leasing space in a contractor’s shop at 1901 N. Plum Ave. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday.

Revival, a store from the owners of Altar’d State that specializes in athleisure, is coming to The Empire Mall. It will be located next to Anthropologie and is expected to open this summer.

Tom Slattery, the owner of JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars, and his brothers, Nick and Jim, have formed Jane’s Boys and purchased Whimp’s Place in Burbank and Toby’s Lounge in Meckling.

The owners of R Wine Bar & Kitchen are opening Brix Wine Bar in the former Wine Time on Main space at 330 S. Main Ave. Riccardo and Marybeth Tarabelsi also are building out the remaining first-floor space in the building for their new restaurant, which is expected to open later this year. To start, Brix will be open Wednesday through Saturday beginning sometime in April.

GreatLife Golf & Fitness has reopened its golf courses for the season.

 A mother-daughter duo who hoped to resurrect their family’s food truck last summer but ran into expensive repairs have started with a restaurant instead. Shona and Jordan Randle have opened Randle’s Kitchen at 114 N. Indiana Ave., serving lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday and also brunch on the weekends. The menu includes the hand-cut chicken strips, quarter-pound hamburgers, patty melts and smoked sausage sandwiches the food truck, which closed in 2017, was known for. They still hope to get the food truck running this summer.

Former restaurant owner David Ohayon has started Papa’s Private Dinners, going into people’s homes to cook for them or their dinner parties. Ohayon, who operated Papa’s Pub & Eatery in Dell Rapids from 2019 to 2021, prepares the entire meal on-site. Guests are welcome to watch him work or simply enjoy the food when they sit down to eat.

Murph’s Burgers & Fries, which started as a food truck last year, has expanded to include a restaurant. Owner Murhpy Lundie is cooking out of the former Grand Junction Grilled Subs space at 5312 E. Arrowhead Parkway. To start, hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

After 70 years, Schwan’s Home Delivery will be changing its name. The new brand is called Yelloh, which the company says captures its “optimistic spirit and unabashed enjoyment of delivering delicious frozen food to millions of customers spanning three generations as a family-owned business.”

Scooter’s Coffee has opened its drive-thru kiosk in Tea. Hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. A walkup window with a small outdoor seating area will be added once the weather warms up, likely next month, owner Travis Rhodes said. It’s at 800 Gateway Lane.

The Thrift Store has closed its original location at 3422 S. Minnesota Ave. but has expanded its site at 3209 S. Summit Ave. The shop, which opened almost one year ago, now has an additional 1,000 square feet, bringing the total area to 5,000 square feet. The Thrift Store is operated by Washed Clean Addiction & Recovery Ministries, a transitional home that works with men to rebuild their lives. Donations of furniture, household goods and other items to be sold can be dropped off during store hours, which are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Pickup of donations and delivery of purchased items are available for a fee.

Forget Me Not Gift Boutique at The Bridges at 57th closed March 5, and adjacent Eddy Joy Baby Boutique closed at the end of February. Owner Jody Kusek announced her retirement in mid-February.

Open Space, an event venue at 6212 S. Pinnacle Place, has closed. Owner Lynette Hofer said the lease expired and she was unable to renegotiate it. She owns another event venue, The Social at 301 S. Thompson Ave., which opened a year ago.

The second phase of State Storage in Brandon is beginning to open. The self-storage business has added 45 units that are large enough for boats and campers at 16-foot-by-50-foot with 14-foot doors. State Storage opened in 2021 at 201 N. Heritage Road offering 151 smaller units.

RunDaq has closed its storefront at 3109 W. 41st St. and has merged with The Cell Phone Guy at 3506 W. 41st St.

Huntington Bank, which merged last year with TCF Bank, has closed its branch in Sioux Falls at 2508 S. Louise Ave.

Reminder: Josiah’s Coffeehouse, Café & Bakery closed Monday for a remodeling project. The downtown restaurant plans to reopen April 11.
