Like supporting local artists and growers? Here are events you won’t want to miss

July 30, 2019

The next couple of weeks will bring several chances to buy local – from produce to paintings. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Local Foods Fair

The Local Foods Fair will bring area producers and chefs together to sell goods, share resources and hand out samples.

The free event is from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Stockyards Ag Experience at Falls Park.

“We know that consumers have lots of choices when it comes to their food. The Local Foods Fair is a chance for consumers to meet some of their local producers face-to-face and learn about their operations,” said Abby Bischoff, executive director of the Stockyards Ag Experience. “We seek to connect people with agriculture, and meeting a farmer is the most direct way we can do that.”

Parking is available across the street from the Stockyards Ag Experience Barn in the Falls Park Farmers Market area.

Artisans for Animals

Shop locally produced art while giving back to the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society at the second annual Artisans for Animals event Aug. 10 in the parking lot of Lewis Drug at 37th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

Dozens of artists as well as boutiques will be selling their works and merchandise from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A freewill donation will be taken for the Humane Society, which also will receive the event’s vendor fees, and Lewis/Purina will match up to 1,000 pounds of donated dog food. And there will be plenty of snacks and water for your dogs, so bring them shopping too. Here’s a look at the vendor list, which also will include The Big Orange Food Truck.
