JJ’s Axes & Ales unveils game room, other new additions

In between throwing axes, you now can play pool, darts, shuffleboard and more at JJ’s Axes & Ales.
The ax-throwing business at 3016 W. 57th St. – a retail center adjacent to JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars – has finished an expansion with lots of new additions.
“It turned out great. We love the space,” owner Tom Slattery said. “Think of it like your basement game room with a little bit of man-cave feel.”
The Gameroom at JJ’s Axes & Ales includes two pool tables, a shuffleboard court, dart boards and video lottery in addition to the ax-throwing lanes.
“The pool table and dart boards are quarter play, so it’s first-come, first-served for now although we’re working on a reservation system,” Slattery said. “We’re going to retool the front end of the space to create a separate check-in area from the bar, so the bar can be used as more of a social zone, and we’ll be adding TVs.”
The bar includes a selection of craft and canned beer, plus wine, and food can be brought in from JJ’s main kitchen.
There’s also a new business office and a conference room that JJ’s is using for internal training sessions and meetings as well as renting out.
“It’s a good fit for groups of a dozen or less looking to do team building or strategic planning or any kind of meeting,” Slattery said.
Right now, Axes & Ales is open Wednesday through Sunday, though the plan is to expand hours. It can be rented any day for private events.
A ribbon-cutting will be at 4:30 p.m. March 1.
And when you stop by, visit JJ’s event room across the parking lot for the March Free Product Expo, which runs from 5 to 7 p.m.
“We have reps who bring various products to sample – beer, wine and spirits – so stick around and have a cocktail and a bite to eat,” Slattery said.
