Indoor pickleball facility plans to open with 8 courts
July 17, 2025
An eight-court indoor pickleball facility is coming to Sioux Falls.
The Jar Pickleball Club will open at 3701 S. Western Ave. in a renovated warehouse.
“This is strictly pickleball, and it will be all technologically at the highest level,” owner Travis Thie said. “It’s the fastest-growing sport in the U.S., and we just don’t have the indoor pickleball facilities a town of this demographic generally has.”
Thie, who also is a co-founder of Mapleton Golf Club, researched the pickleball industry for 18 months, talking with owners from coast to coast.
“I knew there was a big gap (in Sioux Falls), and that location, being centrally located, I couldn’t have hand-picked a better location.”
The building is south of the Scheels store and east of warehouse space used by the sporting goods retailer.
The Jar will have a patriotic theme with red, white and blue as the colors and one court reserved as a demonstration or practice court. Cameras on every court will allow players to record their play and watch in order to improve.
There will be a pro shop carrying paddles, shoes and apparel, and the business has applied for a beer and wine license but doesn’t plan to have food beyond grab-and-go options.
The hope is to open in early November. About 60 days prior, the public can start to purchase memberships.
“It’s a hybrid model that will be both membership and open play, meaning you don’t need to be a member but will be able to book online through our reservation system,” Thie said. “There’s perks to being a member, where you’ll be able to book in advance and things of that nature.”
Some memberships will offer 24-hour access to the building.
“And we’ll have leagues, open play and corporate events available out there,” Thie said. “We’ll have tournaments, and our plan is we’ll have a champions court that all the league play will funnel to.”
Livestreaming will be available on every court, and temporary bleachers can be brought in for competitive events.
