Hegg Realtors plans new headquarters

By Jodi Schwan

Hegg Realtors plans to break ground soon on an office building that will house its 170 Sioux Falls brokers and support staff.

The real estate firm, which is owned by Bill Hegg and Gregg Gohl, has been operating out of several locations in Sioux Falls, including an office on East 26th Street that dates back to the 1980s.

The company has been hoping to consolidate into one location for a few years and, after evaluating existing buildings, decided it would be best to build.

“We feel it will be a better environment for the agents and easier to manage and hopefully more convenient for all,” Gohl said.

The two-story, 25,000-square-foot building will be on Minnesota Avenue, south of 69th Street. Hegg Realtors has been in business for 72 years.

“We couldn’t be happier with our ‘new home’ and the opportunities that it will provide us to serve our clients over the next 72 years,” Hegg said.

The office will include a state-of-the-art training center for agents, a lounge for collaboration and informal learning, and a patio.

“It’s in a great residential area of Sioux Falls but also getting to be more and more of a booming commercial area, so it was a nice mix for us,” Gohl said. “There’s obviously lots of growth on the south side of town, and it’s going to be home to our 150 local agents, so it’s where a lot of them do business and live.”

Hegg sold a portion of the property to an eye clinic.

A groundbreaking is planned for 11:30 a.m. July 11. Van Buskirk Cos. is the general contractor, and RSArchitects is the architect. The hope is to move into the office in February.

Hegg will keep its smaller offices in Brandon, Garretson, Hartford and the Black Hills.
