Handmade pop-up shop opens for rest of the year

April 21, 2023

Art Moms is stepping up its pop-up shop for the rest of the year.

The mother-daughter team of Pennie Ogden and Chantal Olson not only are back with a spring pop-up of locally made merchandise for the first time in more than five years — but also they’re keeping it open on certain days the rest of the year.

When they leased the space for their 2022 holiday market at Park Place Center at 3101 W. 41st St., near Plato’s Closet and Olive Garden, it was the only storefront remaining.

To make sure they had it for Christmas shopping this year, they decided to open the pop-up shop with spring, summer and fall merchandise from Thursday through Sunday the last two weekends of the month.

This month, it’s open through Sunday and then April 27-30.

Five rooms are filled with spring merchandise, from plants and greeting cards to home decor and furniture.

“We have such great makers, and we do a good job finding good variety,” Olson said.

Ogden, whom her daughter calls “the pioneer of pop-ups,” has been doing events since the 1980s, originally from her home. She’d thought about retiring from it, “and here I am,” she said, after Olson convinced her to go bigger this year.

“We had a group of people in today that went to her home shows,” Olson said. “That’s really a generational thing.”

There are about 40 makers with work represented in the space.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
