Giving Back for November

Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for November.

The 437 Project

The 437 Project has donated an additional $22,274 to the Helpline Center. The gift follows a $251,008 donation made after the organization’s run in September across South Dakota to bolster mental health resources. The money will be used to expand a “coaster campaign” in restaurants to promote reaching out for help through the 988 National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.

Fat Kid Pizza

Fat Kid Pizza is donating leftover pizza slices to the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House. The restaurant, which opened in September in the food court at The Empire Mall, typically makes deliveries at least five times a week.

Lyon County Riverboat Foundation

The Lyon County Riverboat Foundation has given a $100,000 gift to Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety to support victims of domestic violence who need emergency shelter. This gift is part of $1.5 million in grants awarded by the charitable organization of Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort to 28 organizations in northwest Iowa, southeast South Dakota and southwest Minnesota.

Spoke-N-Sport

Nearly 30 bicyclists spent the Saturday before Thanksgiving riding the streets of Sioux Falls to collect food for Feeding South Dakota. Spoke-N-Sport organizes the annual Cranksgiving ride, which encourages cyclists to visit at least four grocery stores and buy food to donate. The food drive collected more than 250 items.

Windy City Bites

Windy City Bites is hosting a Comedy Slam Toy & Winter Essentials Drive on Dec. 16. Admission is free with a donation of a toy, socks, gloves, mittens, scarves, beanies or feminine products. Donations and a percentage of food and drink sales will go to the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, Union Gospel Mission and Sioux Falls Jaycees. In addition to comedy performances, the night will include music from Chewy Rodriguez. The event starts at 7 p.m. at the restaurant, 114 S. Indiana Ave.
