Giving Back for May
May 30, 2025
Giving Back recognizes businesses and organizations that are helping our communities. Here’s a look at who gave back for May.
Avera Race Against Cancer
The 37th Avera Race Against Cancer had a record-breaking 7,747 participants, raising a record $765,000 to benefit local cancer patients across the Avera Health footprint. The Avera Race took place May 10 across the Avera system, with events in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Mitchell, Pierre and Yankton, and in Marshall, Minnesota.

In Yankton, race day events included the announcement of a $7 million fundraising campaign, Building Hope Here, to support an Avera Cancer Institute location offering comprehensive cancer services in Yankton. In partnership with the event, Avera Foundation announced a lead gift from Yankton family Larry and Diane Ness and a $500,000 matching gift from First Dakota National Bank.
MarketBeat
In honor of Mother’s Day, MarketBeat employees volunteered at Shift Garage, a nonprofit that repairs vehicles for those in need and provides families with access to affordable, reliable transportation. The business covered the cost of supplies, and the team members were hands-on in completing 10 oil changes for local moms in need. The team also spent time detailing cars for the nonprofit’s UpShift program.

7 Brew
As part of the 7 Brew ribbon-cutting May 9, the franchise-owned drive-thru coffee business at 3707 S. Louise Ave. donated $2,000 to Sanford Children’s Hospital.

Austad Family Foundation
The Austad Family Foundation is leading the Austad’s 100,000 Meal Challenge and is seeking volunteers to help pack meals for Feed My Starving Children. The two-day event will be June 20-21 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Adults and children 5 and older will measure and scoop ingredients, seal bags and prepare boxes for shipping. Registration is open at this link.

Corner Pantry
Corner Pantry has donated $69,000 in scholarships to 32 graduating high school seniors across South Dakota, including six in Sioux Falls. The convenience stores, which are owned by MG Oil, raised the funds through the Fueling the Community checkout roundup campaign and a golf tournament.

First Premier Bank/Premier Bankcard
First Premier Bank and Premier Bankcard have selected 20 students to receive $2,000 Premier Community Scholarships to attend a South Dakota college, university or technical school. They also awarded scholarships to 16 students with a parent or guardian working at Premier.

Hy-Vee Inc.
Hy-Vee Inc. is teaming up again with basketball star Caitlin Clark to offer the exclusive Caitlin’s Crunch Time cereal, which will benefit the Caitlin Clark Foundation. Last time, the cereal was available only in select Hy-Vee stores throughout Iowa. This time, all Hy-Vee stores will offer the cereal for a limited time and while supplies last. The mission of the Caitlin Clark Foundation is to uplift and improve the lives of youths and their communities through education, nutrition and sport.
