Garretson chef to close Lennox restaurant

Aug. 12, 2020

A Garretson restaurant’s expansion to Lennox is closing this week, two months after its opening.

Saturday will be the last day for ‘O’ So Good Too, chef Omar Thornton said.

“It was definitely rough,” he said of starting the restaurant out of the Archery Shak’s kitchen. “We were prewarned that Lennox is a tough egg to crack.”

But Thornton was excited about bringing his Southern comfort food and other options diners couldn’t find in town.

“It came down to staffing – one, getting the people and then keeping the people,” he said. “For restaurants, even before the pandemic it was hard to find people.”

Also dealing a large blow was the loss of inventory last week after a power outage tripped a breaker and refrigerated food wasn’t kept cold, Thornton said.

On the positive side, he said, four staff members from Lennox will be added to ‘O’ So Good in Garretson, which means the restaurant will be able to expand its hours.

Starting next week, Thornton is planning to add lunch hours Wednesday through Saturday and a seafood boil and other specials such as barbecue on Sunday afternoons.

Ever since the rumors that celebrity chef Guy Fieri was at the restaurant in June, taping for his Food Network show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives,” ‘O’ So Good has been seeing more customers, Thornton said.

Closing the Lennox location, he said, will allow him to focus on the Garretson restaurant and the catering side of his business.
