The following is a message from his law firm:

It is with much sadness that Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith announces the passing of Richard “Dick” Gregerson on April 25, 2017.

Dick attended Augustana College, followed by USD Law School.  He joined Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith in 1963 and was a member of the State Bar of South Dakota, the American Bar Association, and the Second Circuit Bar Association.  He received numerous recognitions by “Super Lawyers,” “Best Lawyers,”  and the SD Bar Association.

Prior to joining the firm he worked as a special agent with the FBI and served with the Marine Corps during the Korean War. Dick’s passion for serving others led him to serve two terms in the South Dakota Legislature as a State Senator (1979-1982).  Before and after his time in the Senate, he maintained an active government relations practice.

When not practicing law, Dick was involved in multiple community activities. He was active in or led organizations such as the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Kiwanis, Minnehaha County Republican Party, and First Lutheran Church. He also served on the Mayor’s Task Force on Community Development and Housing, the South Dakota Private Industry Council, the Southeastern Council of Governments, the Southeastern Criminal Justice Commission and the South Dakota Airline Authority. He was a chairman of the South Dakota Highway Commission, as well as a board member for both the Zoological Society and Chamber of Commerce in Sioux Falls.

Dick had recently received the distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, presented by Augustana College during Viking Days homecoming celebrations.

We are honored to have called Dick a colleague. He will be missed.
