The bar and restaurant that used to be Tavern 180 now is called Jack Rose Social Club.

It’s located on the southwest corner of 69th Street and Western Avenue and has been owned for the past couple of years by Commonwealth Group, which also owns Tinner’s Public House and Deuces Casino.

The new name took effect Monday and also is going to be the name of a restaurant the group is opening at The Steel District in downtown Sioux Falls.

General manager Vinnie Olson calls the concept “a little bit more of a relaxed bar atmosphere … a gastropub with bar food-type items with kind of an elevated flair to them.”

A new menu has been rolled out over the past few weeks with more recent additions such as Parmesan truffle fries to go along with the relaunch.

“I think some of the items we have you might not be able to find a lot of places,” Olson said, pointing to an escargot dish and raw oysters.

The menu includes appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers and entrees such as a New York strip, filet mignon and salmon with risotto. View the full menu here.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily beginning at 11 a.m. It closes at 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday, 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and midnight Friday and Saturday. The plan is to bring back weekend brunch at some point.

While the downtown location, which will be on the ground level of a building that includes a parking ramp, apartments and condominiums, will be more than twice the size, the menu largely will be the same.

The cocktail menu also has been slowly rebuilt, Olson said. Jack Rose is named for a cocktail popular in the 1920s and 1930s made with  applejack, grenadine and lemon or lime juice.

“We’re carrying close to 100 labels of bourbon, so there’s quite a bit, and we’re doing small-batch barreling,” Olson said. “We have a new Manhattan we’re coining the 69th Street Manhattan, which we barreled ourselves … so it’s very craft cocktail-oriented.”

The 69th Street location has been updated with a new bar top, flooring and lighting “to make it look a little more warm inside,” he said.

A separate room was designated for a casino, which “technically is a Deuces Casino, and there will be complimentary drinks on that side like the other Deuces,” Olson said.

The downtown location will have a double casino, and the bar/restaurant will include a lot of outdoor seating overlooking Levitt at the Falls, he said.

“I think it’ll still be a more upbeat, casual-dining experience always focusing on the craft cocktails and just trying to elevate what we’ve done,” Olson said.

The hope is to be open downtown early next year.
