Food truck owner to open east-side restaurant

March 2, 2022

Less than a year after starting a food truck, Murphy Lundie is adding a restaurant.

Murph’s Burgers & Fries is shooting for a Saturday opening at 5312 E. Arrowhead Parkway, the former location of Grand Junction Grilled Subs.

Lundie returned to South Dakota last year to start Murph’s after spending several years managing a food truck in Portland, Ore.

The Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef offers a simple menu, but his burgers are filled with flavor, highlighted by his secret house sauce and signature bacon jam.

His bestseller, The Famous Murph Burger, is a one-third-pound patty with house sauce, Swiss and American cheeses, lettuce, onion and the bacon jam.

The bacon jam also comes on the Irish Hangover, which adds a fried egg to the mix. For the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, Lundie makes the barbecue sauce from scratch and smokes the bacon.

A fourth burger is the Reggae, or regular, version of The Famous without the bacon jam.

Fries come with the house sauce for dipping.

Lundie will continue to operate the food truck.

As a wintertime pop-up restaurant, he took over the kitchen at Fernson Downtown, and served burgers from late November until last weekend. He was able to introduce his food to even more customers by entering The Famous Murph Burger in January’s Downtown Burger Battle.

On Monday, he signed a lease for the retail center space and immediately went to work painting and getting it ready to open.
