Featured ‘Parade’ home blends modern, warm feel with indoor-outdoor living

May 12, 2022

When the homeowner approaches 7 feet tall, it makes sense to go big in building.

That’s in part why one of the featured homes on the 2022 Spring Parade of Homes offers high ceilings, above-average countertop heights and plenty of sprawling outdoor space.

It’s located in far northeast Sioux Falls at 8505 E. Sugar Leaf Circle.

“We were going for unique and something original,” said builder Kim Hofer, owner of Big D Homes. “It turned out great. We’re very happy.”

The five-bedroom, seven-bath home includes a 2,000-square-foot garage that doubles as a man cave.

“We tried to go for modern, but we were going for a warm modern,” Hofer said. “We tried to go big, everything to scale. Large open spaces, tall doorways, things like that.”

Here’s a closer look:

More lots are beginning to open for buyers, Hofer said. That’s especially true in northeast Sioux Falls, which has seen a concentration of new construction in the past year.

“I think the nice thing here is there’s a lot of views, rolling hills, people aren’t stacked on top of each other,” Hofer said.

Builders have some availability this year, he added. And supply chain-related issues appear to be a bit better, along with construction costs.

“It’s eased a little bit,” Hofer said. “It’s kind of up and down right now. We’re hearing as the markets go the lumber prices are doing the same. Labor’s hard to find, honestly. Everybody is saying the same thing.”

The Spring Parade of Homes from the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire offers a look at 40 homes and runs May 14-15 and May 21-22 from 1 to 5 p.m. For information, click here.
