Eye-catching school bus serves Tex-Mex tacos and more

June 23, 2021

Instead of students, this mini school bus is carrying tacos.

Rudy Navarrete’s Taco Bus is up and running in the Sioux Falls area and northwest Iowa.

The converted bus is Navarrete’s newest way to serve the Tex-Mex recipes handed down by his grandmother.

The menu is a condensed version of what he served at Rudy M. Navarrete’s Tex-Mexican Restaurant, which closed in March 2020. It’s similar to what he has been offering as Rudy M. Navarrete’s Tex-Mex Catering, with regular dates that are open to the public at the VFW in Brandon and several golf courses and bars in northwest Iowa.

There are burritos, enchiladas, hard and soft shell tacos, loaded nachos, a taco salad and Rudy’s Special. Dinner options come with rice and beans.

On Wednesday, Navarrete was serving lunch to the staff and public at Urology Specialists on East 69th Street. The Taco Bus is available for events like that and more, he said.

Thursday, Navarrete will be at Kuehn Park Golf Course, serving from 5 to 8 p.m. He’ll keep his Facebook page updated as other events are booked.
