Here’s how you know your vehicle sales experience can’t get much better: When Rae Morlan went to pick up her new Lincoln Nautilus last fall, Nick Wilson already had turned off all the features he knew she wouldn’t want activated.

“That’s my favorite story so far — he got it all set for me,” said Morlan, who has worked with Wilson at Sioux Falls Ford Lincoln for more than a decade and through four vehicles between herself and her mother.

“It’s a blast with Nick,” Morlan said. “He really understood what I had time for and what I didn’t. When I’d call and say, ‘I’ve got 15 minutes,’ he’d have it done in 15 minutes.”

Her relationship with Lincoln vehicles goes back to her parents — it’s what they drove. So when her mother was looking for a new car, they met Wilson in 2015.

“I was just so impressed the first time that he’s been my go-to ever since,” Morlan said.

For Wilson, “Rae is super-easy to work with and straightforward. She doesn’t have time to waste, and it’s the same philosophy I have with my guests. I don’t want to waste their time. I realize the car-buying experience isn’t everybody’s dream experience, so I try to be as straightforward and efficient and helpful as possible, and she reciprocates that.”

After driving two Lincoln MKCs, she decided last fall it was time to upgrade to the new Nautilus.

“It was the first year of the new style in the Nautilus — a tip-to-tail redesign,” Wilson said.

“And it was Lincoln’s first introduction of our new Lincoln Digital Experience, a new operating system for infotainment centered around a 48-inch panoramic display across the dash. The entire dash is one display.”

While it’s offered with a hybrid option, it’s also Lincoln’s most powerful engine — “so you don’t give up the acceleration and confidence going down the road,” Wilson said. “There’s no plugging it in or rewiring your house. You just get it in and go, which makes it a great fit for this part of the country.”

While Lincoln “does all the essentials really well, this is the first time we’re dabbling in some fun new amenities,” he continued.

The vehicle essentially will drive itself on the interstate, for instance. One option allows different aromas to be pumped into the cabin. There’s even a “rejuvenation mode” for use while parked that will recline the seat, play calming sounds, show relaxing images on the display, provide a massage and release an aroma. After five minutes of calming, it shifts from heat to cooling and changes the massage “to get you back and ready for the remainder of your day,” Wilson said.

Since driving the vehicle, “it’s fabulous,” Morlan said. “The level of comfort the vehicle provides is amazing. Everything in it is adjustable. I’m tall and can even roll the seat out so it supports my knees more.”

She loves the massage feature, heated seats and fuel economy she gets with her hybrid model.

“When you fill up the 17-gallon tank and it’s getting 503 miles to the tank, I’ll take that,” Morlan said. “The ride is amazing. It’s probably one of the smoothest rides I’ve ever had, and it drives itself, which is wonderful.”

Inventory “is really good right now,” and drivers are responding in a big way to the new Nautilus, Wilson said.

“They’ve been an absolute home run in my opinion, but it also was named Motor Trend’s SUV of the Year, and they’re an extremely reputable evaluator,” he said.

Soon, working with Sioux Falls Ford Lincoln will be an even more exceptional experience, with a new stand-alone Lincoln dealership opening on the campus in a few months.

With the new building, the dealership becomes South Dakota’s exclusive Black Label dealer, offering Lincoln’s top series of vehicles.

“That also means Lincoln commits more inventory to us, so we’ll have more on the ground, which is a win-win for customers, who will have even more selection,” Wilson said.

Morlan and her husband already are talking about their first road trip in the new car.

And when it’s time for servicing, “they come pick up my car and bring it back,” she said. “It’s very, very easy. And if I have a question, I can always text Nick, and he’ll respond. We do all our business at Sioux Falls Ford Lincoln and just love them. They’re great.”

It’s the kind of relationship that also has kept Wilson in his role for 14 years.

“When you can get to know customers and their families over multiple cars, it’s more like helping a friend,” he said. “It’s a seamless process and goes a lot smoother. After this many years, you get to know people, and we try to maintain those relationships long term with our guests.”
