An independent pharmacist has put his business on hold to focus on his own health.

Dan Peterson opened Dan’s Drugstore at 5028 S. Cliff Ave. in 2015.

He had a tumor removed in the fall of 2022, and areas in his spine and spinal cord are being monitored every few months.

“I decided for myself and my family that I need to rest and get better,” he said.

“My recovery and health will determine the time to reopen.”

Hy-Vee has purchased Peterson’s patient files “to ensure continuity of care while I take time to hopefully heal,” he said, adding that the outpouring of support he has received has been humbling.

“The support I have received is tremendous,” he said, adding in a Facebook post: “I believe that God is good, and he is telling me I need rest for myself and my family. I hope to rest up, heal up and see what is in store for me. I am grateful for all the well-wishes and know that I gave everything I had.”
