Connect with upcoming events to kick off Sioux Empire United Way campaign

Sept. 17, 2023

This paid event listing is sponsored by Sioux Empire United Way.

Free coffee, an exclusive craft beer and lots of ways to support important community causes are ahead as Sioux Empire United Way kicks off its 2024 campaign.

This is the second year SEUW is hosting a week of community events to officially kick off campaign season.

“We saw good engagement last year and wanted to build on that momentum in year two,” campaign director Olivia Essig said. “We’ve added a few more community-facing elements to the schedule to help increase awareness of Sioux Empire United Way in our community.”

Here’s what you’ll find happening starting Sept. 18!

Monday, Sept. 18

Thanks to event sponsors First PREMIER Bank/PREMIER Bankcard and Scooter’s Coffee, stop by Scooter’s Coffee in Sioux Falls, Brandon or Tea starting at 6 a.m. for a free drink until allocated funds are gone. Limit one free drink of any type or size per transaction. Share your experience on social media to help promote the campaign! Then, continue the celebration at The Barrel House, where 10 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the campaign. Finally, stop by Nyberg’s Ace and round up your purchase through Oct. 1 to benefit SEUW.

Tuesday, Sept. 19

You might get a sweet surprise as SEUW board members, staff and volunteers will be delivering thank-you doughnuts from Flyboy Donuts to partner agencies. Plus, Flyboy will be selling an SEUW dozen and coffee blend with a percentage of proceeds to benefit the campaign. Click here to learn more.

Wednesday, Sept. 20

In addition to the regular tour schedule, SEUW added a bus tour to bring together volunteers, donors and community members in touring three agencies serving children, vulnerable adults and people in crisis: Active Generations, Furniture Mission and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire.

Thursday, Sept. 21

Head to Severance Brewing Co. from 4 to 7 p.m. for the launch of the exclusive SEUW Brew. The first 50 guests will receive a commemorative glass, and Severance will donate $1 per beer sold during the party to the campaign.

You also can support SEUW the entire month in the Severance taproom by rounding up your tab. The SEUW Brew will be sold in select stores throughout the Sioux Falls area, with $1 of each four-pack sold benefiting SEUW.

Friday, Sept. 22

Come enjoy a FREE lunch as SEUW serves the community. Thank you to event sponsor First Interstate Bank for making this community meal possible. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m to 1:30 p.m. outdoors in the Paladino Hohm Sculpture Garden, located on the north side of the Washington Pavilion. All are welcome while supplies last!

Saturday, Sept. 23

Do your part to give back by bringing needed items for SEUW youth programs to a day of fun at SCHEELS. Here’s a list of what’s needed: board games, playground/sports balls, outdoor activities, hula hoops, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, toys (youth-school age), Legos, fidget toys, colored duct tape, books, puzzles, cars, outside toys, and arts and craft supplies. All donations must be new, and SEUW cannot accept clothing, snacks or diapers.

Throughout the week, “the hope is that we can connect with new and existing donors to thank them for their support and encourage their involvement in the 2024 campaign,” Essig said.

“We also want to help educate the community on the programs we help support that are helping fill gaps in our community as it relates to children, vulnerable adults and people in crisis.”

Three programs are featured in this year’s campaign video:

  • Ceili Cottage of Active Generations
  • Sioux Falls Area CASA
  • Ready to Start

Here’s a closer look at them:

“Without the support of the community and local businesses, Sioux Empire United Way wouldn’t be able to support the agencies and programs that are so desperately needed in our community,” Essig said.

“When you give to SEUW, your donation stays local, with nearly 90 cents of every dollar going to a local program.”

In the past year, SEUW has provided critical funding to agencies and programs making a difference in the lives of children, vulnerable adults and people in crisis. Here are just a few examples of the impact SEUW had in the community in 2022, all thanks to donors:

      • 127,735 books mailed to children through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
      • 2,595 in-school mental health counseling sessions provided to students.
      • 17,249 hours of service provided to abused and neglected children.
      • 278,927 meals served to people older than 60.
