Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.
Montgomery’s has opened an expanded showroom in the adjacent former Conlin’s Furniture space at 41st and West. The new area includes the family-owned furniture store’s flooring, lighting and window treatments, along with a broader assortment of furniture. That includes a Smart Comfort display of reclining furniture that incorporates immersive sound, heat and massage. There’s also a new clearance center. The store at 1725 W. 41st St. is open daily.
The building also includes two tenants. Locally owned Kids 2 College Furniture has been in Sioux Falls since 2008, with its most recent home in the Western Mall. The store at 1701 W. 41st St. sells furniture for children’s bedrooms and is open daily. On41 is a discount merchandiser formerly known at HomeLife. The locally owned business uses a “bin store” model that features crates of items that go down in price each day after they’re put on the floor. Hours for the store at 3425 S. West Ave. are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Tuesday.
Top Hat Bar & Lounge has found its next home downtown after finding out that its lease won’t be renewed at the end of the year. The longtime bar at 508 S. First Ave. will be relocating to the former Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse space at 200 S. Main Ave. Owner Andrea Shaw said she might make the move later this summer.
Bluestone Federal Credit Union has opened a microbranch at 6311 W. 41st St. It features two interactive teller machines inside and one outside, with staff assisting on other transactions and services.
Soukup Construction Inc. has acquired Asphalt Surfacing Co. Soukup specializes in site preparation, earthwork and utilities, and ASCO specializes in civil, commercial and residential asphalt paving.
With expansion on the Avera on Louise campus, Avera Specialty Hospital has been renamed Avera Orthopedic Hospital. Gastroenterology services moved earlier this year into the new Pavilion 2 building. Pavilion 1 houses Avera Orthopedics and other specialty clinics, including rheumatology, internal medicine and urogynecology.
Jenn Peterson of Harrisburg has started The Wildflower Den, a traveling studio that offers low-cost crafting events for kids.
Shay Veatch has started Shay’s Handyman Services. It’s a woman-owned business designed to help other women who don’t have the time or interest for home repairs or other tasks like putting together furniture or installing curtains.
Washington Pavilion Management Inc. has converted its retail shop at The Steel District into a rotating artist residency program. Artists can use the space as a working studio or for things like art shows, retail sales and classes. Alcove is at 151 E. Fourth Place, Suite 180.
Sanford Health has reached an agreement to merge with Minnesota-based North Memorial Health, marking a move into the Twin Cities market for the Sioux Falls-based health system. North Memorial is an independent nonprofit health system that includes Robbinsdale and Maple Grove hospitals, 22 clinics and hospital-based ground and air emergency medical services programs. The combined organization would create the Twin Cities region of Sanford Health. The deal is expected to close sometime this year, subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.
Aruma Tacos & Tequila opened May 7 at 2310 S. Marion Road in the former restaurant space most well-known as The SandBar & Grill at Lake Lorraine. The family-owned restaurant features a one-page menu of traditional offerings like tacos, burritos, enchiladas and fajitas. It has a full liquor license and carries top-shelf tequila, the owners said. It’s open daily for lunch and dinner.
Fuel House Nutrition has opened in the first-floor marketplace of the Jones421 Building at 421 N. Phillips Ave. Hours for the Herbalife beverage shop are 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
