Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Ziggi’s Coffee is under construction with a stand-alone building at 4410 E. 57th St. that will offer seating and a drive-thru. Franchise owners Michael and Liz Minor are bringing the national coffee brand to Sioux Falls. In addition to beverages, the coffee shop will serve breakfast sandwiches and burritos, paninis and pastries. It’s expected to open in late February.

The Speedway gas station at 2911 W. 41st St. has closed. The business was owned by 7-Eleven, which acquired Speedway in 2021 from Marathon Petroleum Co. The property has been owned by SuperAmerica Group since 1991.

T-Mobile has opened at 81 Gardens, a new retail center at the northwest corner of 81st Street and Minnesota Avenue. Three tenants also are building out spaces. Jersey Mike’s Subs is expected to open its third location in the city this spring. Nekter Juice Bar’s second location in the city is looking at a May opening. Prime IV is expected to open in early spring, offering IV-based therapies and a cryotherapy electric chamber.

Raeco Builders has moved into its new headquarters at 2219 E. Benson Road. The business, which was founded in 2009 by Tom Jurgens, also has expanded to Rapid City. It offers pre-engineered steel buildings, concrete construction and full-service general contracting.

Harvester Kitchen by Bryan has created a pop-up pizzeria. Nunzio’s Pizza Kitchen is serving wood-fired pizzas this month that are available only for takeout. Future pop-up dates are a possibility.

The first college hockey games have been played in the new Midco Arena at Augustana University. The 3,100-seat venue is on the campus at 33rd Street and Grange Avenue. It also includes the GreatLIFE Strength & Conditioning Center, which is open to all Augustana athletes.

Longtime commercial HVAC company Climate Systems Inc. is being sold to its employees. The company was founded by Dave Stadheim in 1984, and the current partners are Gregg Welch, Dean Welch and John Schwartz. It has about 40 employees and is becoming a 100 percent ESOP.

The east-side Attic Bar & Grill is closed temporarily for remodeling, but the adjacent Ass’ociates & Co. and Clover Club Casino are open. Because the kitchen is getting a new floor, Ass’ociates has drinks-only service for those 21 and older. Once the kitchen work is completed, Ass’ociates will start serving food and temporarily will be open to all ages. The tentative reopening date for The Attic is Feb. 15.

Take 5 Oil Change has opened at 1750 E. 10th St. The franchise location for the national chain features quick oil changes, with customers staying in their vehicles while the work is done. It’s open daily.

A locally owned coffee shop is under construction at The Steel District in downtown Sioux Falls. Brioux Falls will be inside the office tower that opened late last year, just off the skyway to the parking garage. In addition to drinks, it will serve breakfast and lunch. Brioux Falls is expected to open in April.

Child’s Play Toys has closed one of its three locations. The toy store at the west-side Lake Lorraine development closed in early January after owner Nancy Savage decided not to renew the lease.

After about 30 years at The Empire Mall, Taco John’s has closed its food court location. Franchisee Ted Miller said he decided not to renew the lease.

MarketBeat has moved into its office in the new Bancorp Building at Cherapa Place and is having an open house Feb. 27. The new space on the sixth floor has 9,000 square feet, compared with 1,200 square feet in the previous office in The Crane Centre. The business founded by Matt Paulson provides online stock market news, analysis and research tools.

The former Bed Bath & Beyond at Empire East is becoming a new location for Ashley HomeStore. It will be the third site for the furniture store in Sioux Falls and is expected to open in the spring.

Burger Time has closed at 2300 W. 12th St. The east-side location remains open.

Locally owned Daylily Coffee has opened at 1010 E. Eighth St. It’s owned by Andrew Fritz and his wife, Ariana Vandersnick, who roast their own beans. The coffee shop also serves pastries. Hours “for the foreseeable future” are 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Fernson Brewing Co. is adding Fernson Coffee + Tea to its downtown taproom. The coffee shop will open Feb. 13 in Fernson Downtown, 332 S. Phillips Ave. Hours likely will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For food, Look’s Bakehouse will supply a variety of pastries, and Wagoo Burger will open its kitchen in the taproom earlier to serve breakfast and lunch.

Last week, we published an article updating information on opening dates for two dozen restaurants. You can find all those details here.
