Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

J.H. & Sons has opened a store in the upscale Galleria Shopping Center in Edina, Minnesota. In addition to downtown Sioux Falls, the men’s clothing retailer also has a store in Omaha.

Ken’s Korner has new owners. Tommy and Cherith Heuer, Allan and Mallory Williamson and Bret LaCroix bought the neighborhood bar at 918 W. Sixth St. from Keith McGuire. They have a two-year plan to give the bar, which once was a gas station and repair shop, a face-lift, while keeping its laid-back, neighborhood-vibe bar.

A new store in a retail center at 42nd and Hawthorne sells gold jewelry and Asian groceries. Rachel Alfson of Canton has started Oriental Merchandise & Gold. It’s open daily.

The Community Blood Bank has opened an east-side donation center. It’s in a former Avera McKennan clinic space at Dawley Farm Village.

The owners of Salas Salsas are opening a restaurant next spring in downtown Sioux Falls. BibiSol will be in the former Mrs. Murphy’s Irish Gifts space at 219 S. Phillips Ave. The menu will focus on nixtamal-based offerings, which is an ancient practice of processing corn to make masa, the dough used in tamales and tortillas. It also will serve beer and wine, and will have a grab-and-go section.

The first tenants in the first building at the USD Discovery District will be the South Dakota Small Business Development Center Network and the Prairie Family Business Association. Construction has started on the two-story office and research building at 4600 W. Nobel St.

Tool Depot is closing its stores in Sioux Falls and Iowa as the owner retires. The store at 2715 E. 10th St. will close at the end of January.

After a former employee stepped up to take over one of the four Apple Tree Children’s Centers slated for closure, owner Randy Stewart said deals are looking promising on at least two of the three remaining locations. Apple Tree announced earlier this month that it would end operations by Jan. 11. Pete Nelson is taking over Apple Tree West.

Stylist Rob Davis is starting Gents Grooming, a full-service salon for men. It will be in a retail center at Dawley Farm Village and is expected to open in March.

Thornton Flooring is moving to a new 109,000-square-foot location that’s set to open early next year. It will be in the Bakker Landing development on the northwest corner of the Tea exit for Interstate 29. The business started in 1975 and has been at its current location at 27106 Independence Ave. since 1999.

Family-owned Hacienda Jalisco opened last week at 1309 E. Benson Road. The restaurant features dishes from the Mexican state of Jalisco. It’s open daily and also serves breakfast.

A new east-side restaurant features artisan Neapolitan-style pizzas. The Scapegoat, which is locally owned, also serves salads, desserts, beer and wine. It’s at 7400 E. Oak Grove Trail next to The Alibi’s new location. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. daily.

Prosper Country Warehouse & Event Hall has opened just east of Lennox. The new 9,500-square-foot venue can hold up to 575 people. Allie McLouth, who owns the business with her husband, Dustin, describes it as “a sleek, black, modern yet industrial-styled venue.”

Big Sioux Storage has opened at 5800 N. Cliff Ave., just north of Interstate 90. The facility offers secure access, easy-to-use rental software, insulated ceilings and 24/7 security. The drive-up units, which aren’t climate-controlled, range in size from 5-foot-by-10-foot up to 10-foot-by-30-foot. Short- and long-term rentals are available.

Panther Premier Print Solutions has acquired Advertising Arts. “This acquisition aligns with our strategic vision to provide our clients with a one-stop solution for all their printing, apparel, sign and promotional needs,” Panther president Aaron Mell said in a news release. Panther is keeping the Advertising Arts staff, who will move early next year to the Panther location at 600 E. 52nd St. N.
