Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

The owners of Intoxibakes have purchased Candy Cloud Factory. The two shops are just a few blocks apart on North Phillips Avenue. There will be some product crossover between the two, but only the nonalcoholic versions of the baked goods will be sold at the cotton candy shop.

Women’s clothing retailer Garage is coming to The Empire Mall. Garage was founded in 1975 in Canada and has more than 300 locations across North America. It’s scheduled to open next summer.

Lloyd Cos. has become the first tenant to move into The Steel District, its development adjacent to Falls Park. Lloyd occupies more than two floors of the nine-story Steel District building at 150 E. Fourth Place, enough for 170 employees today and room to grow to at least 200.

The cafeteria at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center has reopened after an eight-month remodeling project. The updated Cafe 1325 offers a new look along with new food stations and an on-site kitchen.

ISG, a design and engineering firm with a growing Sioux Falls team, is the first tenant to move into The Bancorp building, one of multiple projects underway on the Cherapa Place campus in downtown Sioux Falls. ISG is the firm that designed the expanded development. The new office at 345 S. Reid St., Suite 300, has 50 people, and there’s enough room to nearly double that.

Tyler Goff Group has moved into a new office at 7601 S. Kenton Lane. The 20-person team is part of Hegg Realtors.

Stacey’s Vintage-Art-Boutique, which has provided a home for dozens of makers to sell their goods since 2019,  is closing Oct. 28. The shop is being displaced as construction progresses to extend Veterans Parkway from the east side of Sioux Falls to Interstate 29. Owner Stacey Namminga decided to close the business at 27102 Albers Ave. rather than moving it because she hasn’t been able to reach a compensation agreement with the state, she said. A customer appreciation day will be Saturday.

As Stacey’s prepares to close, another marketplace for local makers is opening nearby. Maker’s Exchange, which will be owned by five families, will be on the west side of the Tea exit, north of Casey’s General Store. The hope is to include more than 50 independently owned businesses. The goal is to have the building constructed by the end of the year and ready to open in February.

A new shop offering specialty popsicles, waffles and more has opened on West 41st Street. Paleta Paradise, 3508 W. 41st St., is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Paletas look like popsicles but are made with fresh fruits such as strawberry and mango and secondary ingredients like milk or condensed milk. They can be enjoyed on a stick, like popsicles, but adding some of the extras offered at Paleta Paradise means they must be served in a rectangular dish. Owner Omar Nunez has two restaurants and a bakery in California, where he lives, but has family in Sioux Falls.

Greg Sands is selling the company he has spent nearly 30 years building — to his employees. The founder and CEO of Sands Drywall, now known as Sands Wall Systems, has created an employee stock ownership plan.

The UPS Store is moving its West 41st Street store to the east side at Dawley Farm Village. It’s going into a three-tenant retail building along Veterans Parkway that includes Pizza Hut and Budget Blinds. The UPS Store plans to be open in the spring of 2024.

While Big Poppa’s Food Truck made its debut late in the food truck season, it’s set up to run year-round. The food truck from On the Spot Catering owner Tony Axtell is an extension of that operation and will be used as a mobile kitchen as needed for weddings and other private gatherings, but it also will serve food at public events and at businesses. The menu includes chislic, chicken wings, gourmet burgers, loaded nachos and more.

The Eat Well Sioux Falls Mobile Market has opened. It’s designed to bring healthy, affordable food directly to the “food deserts” in the city, those low-income, low-access areas where grocery stores can be more than 15 minutes away and transportation can be a deterrent. A community coalition led by Sioux Falls Thrive developed the Eat Well Mobile Market program. To find locations for the Mobile Market, visit its website or follow it on Facebook.

Sioux Falls-based Silverstar Car Wash is expanding into Minnesota. Silverstar plans to add five locations in the Twin Cities area, beginning later this year with a car wash in Inver Grove Heights.

Downtown event venue Monick Yards has opened. Located at 605 E. Eighth St., the venue is a partnership between the owners of Carpenter Bar, Highball and The Treasury and the owners of event venues Convolo and Casetta, who will manage the space. Monick Yards offers a 12,000-square-foot space that can hold up to 400 guests for seated events or can be subdivided. There’s also a patio with seating.

A franchised location for growing restaurant chain Chick N Max has opened at Lake Lorraine. The quick-serve restaurant, which includes a drive-thru, is in a stand-alone building at 2201 S. Lorraine Place, near the Hyatt Place hotel at Lake Lorraine. It has seating for 64 diners. The menu features almond wood-smoked chicken and wings, sandwiches, fried tenders and homestyle sides. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

A Brookings-based Mexican restaurant group is adding an east-side location at Dawley Farm Village. La Cantina has leased a 3,500-square-foot space in a retail center between Buffalo Wild Wings and Pizza Hut. The vacant space was a former Massage Envy location. La Cantina plans to open sometime next year.

Chelsea and Cole DeBoer, creators of the home renovation series “Down Home Fab” on HGTV, are opening Down Home by DeBoers. The store will be in a strip mall in the Bakker Landing development just west of the Tea exit at Interstate 29. It will sell home decor, accent pieces and furniture, with an exclusive section for Aubree Says, the DeBoer’s family-friendly home decor brand.

Financial services tech company Fiserv has discontinued its operations in Sioux Falls and has asked employees to transfer to other locations The company had been at 4501 S. Technology Drive. Company officials did not disclose how many employees are affected by the closure.

The owners of the Ramada Waterpark did not give Boss’ Pizzeria & Sports Bar the option of renewing its lease, deciding instead to open their own restaurant in the space. By the end of the year, they plan to open Boston’s Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar, which had a location on East 10th Street years ago. Boss’ had been in the hotel at West and Russell since late 2019.

Complete Nutrition has closed its supplement store at The Bridges on 57th. The franchise location opened at the retail center at 57th and Western in 2007. Customers are being asked to call the Rapid City location to order products, with free two-day shipping, or order online.
