Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

DoorDash Essentials, which does business as DashMart, is coming to Sioux Falls. It’s a concept launched through DoorDash in 2020 to deliver the kinds of items you find in a convenience store — but through an online ordering and delivery platform. In Sioux Falls, the fulfillment center will be in a nearly 11,000-square-foot building at 1220 S. Minnesota Ave., the former home of Unlimited Electronic Lifestyles, which moved to 27111 Independence Avenue near the Tea exit for Interstate 29. DashMart is expected to open this fall.

Year Round Brown will move from 57th and Cliff to a new retail center at 69th and Cliff. The larger space for the tanning salon means it will expand to offer 3 Degrees infrared sauna services, additional red light therapy options, plus all new state-of-the-art sunbeds and spray tanning equipment. It’s expected to open with the new year. The site also will include Starbucks and Gloss Nails.

Sisters Kelsey and Nikki Cook have started Taverns & Tots, a food truck serving Midwest favorites. The business is available for public and private events.

Average Joe’s Gaming & Hobby Store is closing after about a year in business. It’s located southeast of Tea at 27294 Verhey Place. Owner Joe Hamerly has set hours of 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 1 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday through Labor Day weekend. A two-day auction of board games is set for Aug. 20-21.

The second Caribou Cabin in Sioux Falls has opened at Dawley Farm Village. The new concept from Caribou Coffee, which features a drive-thru and walk-up location with a patio, is along 26th Street just east of Casey’s. Hours are 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

A spa focused on IV therapy has opened its first franchise in Sioux Falls. Live Hydration Spa, based out of Omaha, is in a retail center near 57th and Louise. Trained nurses and nurse practitioners set up individuals on an IV drip to receive vitamins, nutrients and minerals directly into their bloodstream. It’s open daily.

Maryland-based TCOM Holdings, the parent of TCOM LP, has acquired Aerostar International Inc. from Raven Industries Inc., which now is a subsidiary of CNH Industrial NV. Aerostar will become an operating business unit under TCOM, which promotes itself as the global leader for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance awareness solutions. Based in Sioux Falls, Aerostar is a global leader in the design, manufacture, integration and operation of persistent stratospheric platforms and radar systems.

Dillard’s has announced that it’s coming to The Empire Mall, and the plan is to open in the fall of 2023. The national department store chain will take over the former Younkers space of 100,000 square feet and build a 40,000-square-foot addition on the west side of the building.

In other Empire Mall news, Spirit Halloween has its seasonal store in the former Gordmans building, and Go Calendars, Toys and Games has moved into the former PacSun space.

Passengers at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport now can get a Cinnabon fix while waiting for a flight. The kiosk offering cinnamon rolls and other treats from the national restaurant chain has opened on the upper concourse. The renovation project also includes a new craft beer tasting area. Construction is wrapping up on a deli grab-and-go counter.

Ryan Gaede and Jess Jones have started The Smoked Culture, a food truck specializing in smoked meat sandwiches. They’re available for public and private events.

Austad’s Golf is expanding to the Des Moines area. The Sioux Falls-based, family-owned golf retailer plans to open a store on March 1, 2023, in West Des Moines. It will be Austad’s 11th location and its third in Iowa.

HireClick will move this fall from 8th & Railroad Center to a space that’s twice as large in the Johnson Building at 11th and Second. The larger office will accommodate anticipated growth for the employment software company.

Thyme Cafe has closed its location in the food court at The Empire Mall after three months. Owner Taylor Massey continues to operate her first location, Thyme Cafe & Catering, which is at Signature Flight Support at Joe Foss Field. She serves breakfast and lunch there from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and provides catering services. The mall location featured build-your-own pastas and grab-and-go flatbreads.
